    Default all new to me

yep going to have a crack at this scroll saw caper .
i have 2 small grandaughters and i want to have a go at making some wooden jigsaw ( scroll saw ) puzzles for them .( the eldest 4 year old loves puzzles )
plus i just might be able to talk the wife into having a go at making them too , she just might enjoy it ( i hope ) .
anyway today i bought one of the little scheppach saws to get started and a few packs of blades . if it gets used enough then i will move up to a better saw.
also picked up a few sheets of 6mm mdf and a spray can of adhesive .
see what evolves over the next few days , any hints or tips welcome

It's great to find another 'newbie to scrolling' so close - we have probably passed in the street. How is the puzzle cutting going? I am also starting with puzzles but am having trouble with controlling the curves - am using softwood, not MDF. Have you tried plywood?

It sounds as if you're going to be cutting flat puzzles rather than stand-up puzzles, which, of course, require thicker wood.

I truly do not believe that you need any kind of pattern for a flat puzzle. Just find a picture of something your children like, glue it to the wood (preferably plywood 1/4" of thereabouts), spray it with something to protect it and provide a gloss, and just start cutting. Here are some insruction I wrote a few years ago which might be of help: Woodworking Friends - Login
