Default Back from a bit of an extended break (Latest Cuttings)

    Hi,

It's been a long while between posts (looks like my last was back in April '21).

With a growing family and busy day job (and a ongoing covid pandemic) it was hard to find time to get into the shop and on the saw to create stuff, however in the past month or so I have been able to find some time each week to get back into the swing of things.

Here are some of my recent artworks - most are Helder Botas [Custom Wood Portraits] patterns with the exception of the P51 which came from Steve Good. All are cut from 6mm ply using a mix of #1 spiral and modified geometry blades, and each is A4 in size (except the P51, that's about 200mm square).

I hope to post more of my work in the forum moving forward, but no guarantees. You can however follow me on FACEBOOK and/or INSTAGRAM where I do regularly post my latest works under the tag WoodenJoys.

    Thanks,
    Simon

keep up the good work I like the look of each the eyes are the most difficult but you have done them justice, if you like Australia there is a book from Helen of scroll saw fame that has them last time I looked.

Thank you - any greatness in these designs can be attributed to the pattern makers, I just try my best to stay on/within the lines

I agree the eyes in most pieces are the hardest and often most important part of the cut, as these are generally the focal point when someone looks at it. I find it best to cut these first up, and work my way out from there. I learnt the hard way on a Tiger I was attempting recently, coming to the eyes about 90mins in and a lapse in concentration and it tore right out leaving a large hole Ended up as scrap, but I guess i could of turned it into a pirate tiger with an eye patch or something

Yes i have seen mention of that Australian pattern book in Helen's advertising when she sends me my blades. I am interested in it for sure - would you be able to tell me what patterns it contains?

Thanks - i need to get some more blades so i will ask Helen to include a copy of the book too.

Yeah i try my best to control the dust - but its a continually improving process. I am on the hunt for a new dust mask (the RZ one from Timbecon look good/comfortable), and will also be doing some more enhancements to my shop dust collection this weekend to try and get some better capture at source. Can't be too careful
