    Default Blade adaptor

I am about to start work on a pair of adaptors so I can use blades that don't have pins in a scroll saw that requires the pins. Will require a jig to set them the correct distance apart.

Before I get too carried away, does anyone know if something like this already exists or is available. If so, where.

I am finding that the blades with pins come with far fewer variations than the ones without in the storel locally in Japan.

    Thanks

    Steve

I guess it depends on the brand of saw, I have know a few who have successfully put new clamps on their old saws to have them accept pinless blades.

    Default On the blade

    Oges

    Thanks for the reply.

I am actually thinking of 2 aluminium clamps. Slit in the middle, grub screw in from the side, pointed at the end facing the blade.

A jig that holds them the correct distance apart while a pinless blade is inserted and tightened.

The pinless blade then becomes a pin blade. Increasing the range of blades available for pin type scroll saws.

Trying to attain the strength and small size will be tricky.

Tightness can be adjusted by having the jig with a threaded adjuster that determins where on the blade the clamps clamp.

One problem will be when the blade breaks, seeing what will happen when a lump of aluminium drops.

Not had much experience with scroll saws. Hence the question.

TJ, as Brett sez, depends on the saw a bit, but yes, you can get several different types of pinless adaptors that I'd reckon would suit the majority of saws.

Some bolt onto the end of the arms, replacing the existing setup for holding the blades, others are like a stirrup that hangs on a small "tongue" on the existing setup.

Would be good if you could post a piccy of your saw & we can see which type would be suitable.

It would be less hassle to buy the clamps than make them I'd reckon, good challenge to make your own but they are pretty cheap here.

    Default Wheels

    Thanks Scooter,

If there is something out there, I will look harder.

    No point in re-inventing wheels.

Japan is a funny place. World leader in some aspects, catching up in many others.

Anyone know of a link to a site that sells adaptors?

Will try Lee Valley, they are usually pretty good.

Forgot to mention, here's a couple of links where this has been discussed.

I could buy adaptors & post them to you if you can't get them locally.

sounds a lot simpler to just get a saw that has pinless to start with, even on the cheap saws pinned blades are become a rare thing.

Go to the site above and search for "Scroll Saw Dual Blade System - ACCS-16"

There are other versions available at other outlets.

It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

WMS (Woodworking machinery specialists) have blade adapters for a variety of brands of scrollsaws, in their scrollsaw accessories section. If you are usure of which adapter is right for you, just email them the make & model of your scrollsaw and ask for advice.
