Carbatec 18in scroll saw blade issue
Hello I am new to this forum. I have been using a scroll saw for about 2 years.
I have a carbatec 18in scroll saw. Up until now it has been great but now the blade keeps slipping out of the top blade clamp I have replaced it with a new one but the problem still remains.
It slips more with smaller blades size 1 and smaller. It is a real pain because it slips out while it's running and is bending all of my blades. I have had a few people look at it and try to help but with no success. I have even taken the blade clamp to an engineer.
I was wondering if this was a common problem and if anyone had any ideas of how to fix this.
Thanks.

Photos?? Could the blade holder have spread a bit over time and tension? Allowing the pin to come loose and fall out? I am presuming it is a pinned blade holder.

what I found to be an issue with the blade holder was splitting of the die cast material. I cured this issue by buying a kit of replacement blade holders from Helen Harris in South Adelaide, fantastic.

If it is one off the Hegna scroll saw copys replace the blade clamps with Hegna clamps top and bottom. I think Helen Harris has them otherwise Carrolls.

Craiglaney. If it is me who you have answered I think you have misunderstood me. Carbatec have an 18 inch saw that is an Asian copy of the Heggna. I assume this is the saw you have. If so I have had experience with such a saw and the answer to the problem is to buy Heggna clamps. You would need the quick clamp at the top. These clamps fit your saw exactly the same as the Heggna and make a world of difference. They are for pinless blades. Pin blades don't come into it. If you get these clams you will need to clean them with a spirit cleaner every now and again. They also have an adjustment in the actual clamp contacts. That might need attention now and again but be careful in the adjustment. It is very fine.
I had such a saw for about ten years and a friend bought it off me and it is still going well. I upgraded to a 16 inch general and it has many benefits going for it. I didn't realize that you are in New Zealand until I pressed the send button. I hope you are able to buy from the two companies I mentioned other wise contact with your Heggna distributor would be good. Like all Heggna stuff the clamps are not cheap.

Yes.... Helen sells them ( [email protected]) Every time one of our club members buys one of the carbatec saws he ends up ordering a set of the holders. Once they are installed they are great saws!
