Carbatec Jet 16 - issue with pinless blades
Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help please. The Jet 16 is my first scroll saw, and I recognize it is an entry level machine so i should have pretty low expectations. I'm fine using the pinned blades - but I want to get into some finer work, and having trouble with the pinless blades.
The top clamp is okay, but the bottom clamp doesn't hold the pinless blade even at it's tightest. I thought perhaps there was a second clamp that I had to fit depending on the type of blade, but it's the only one it came with. The top clamp does tighten sufficiently, but not the bottom.
I didnt' think I had bad coordination skills, but the bottom clamp is also tucked away pretty out of the way. Perhaps i'll get used to it, but my first priority is to work out how to clamp pinless blades at the bottom.
Any help of advice please?
Thanks and kind regards,
Todd
Quick update - i've got the clamps working!! Whoo hoo! Still appreciate any advice if there are better clamps out there? Also, i found that I've been cutting into the plastic centre ring.. i might have used the blade too long and it bent. Is this normal or am I a total drongo. (don't answer that Just tell me if I can get new plastic rings please?)
thanks again,

Blade Wander !!
Hi there,I think you need a bit more tension on the blade, just give it a pluck and should have a fine ping to it.What happens , as you move the timber while cutting ,the blade distorts too much when you don't have the correct tension on the blade.I have a couple of Hegners ,Multicut Quick and a 2S,these have steel inserts ,and it is surprising how much of this plate gets chewed away over a period of time. I use my Quick every day as I do this for a living. Most people when see me cutting say they cannot cut as fast, however my tension as always more than they run.I might break a few more blades, but the cut is superior, especially with the Pegas Modified Geometry blades. By using the pin-less blades ,you have a much larger choice of blades and they are a much better quality as well. Also they are much cheaper than they were some years ago.Good luck.

Plastic Inserts.
I forgot to mention that when you get the correct tension on your blade ,you can cut out a couple spare plastic inserts too. I do this for my bandsaw as well. Cheers.
