Graham thank you for your review.

As with all machines different people have different problems, It is good to see how you have rectified yours.
Hopefully somone from General International has seen you video and takes notice.

Excalibur were bought out by General International a few years ago.

General International have always produced their goods from Tiawan as they are the same as us our local labour content is too expensive.

I agree the Excalibur has had its problems but over time they have been rectified.

    Happy scrolling

Graham, thanks for your review, you have persuaded me. What makes me irate about any of these imports made with cheap labour, is that we get something made with cheap material by cheap workers, and yet we have to pay the price of something supposedly well made.

Jim sells some great products, and it is my guess that he would stand by his products as far as Federal and State Law is concerned. I can only shake my head and think that, should I become the owner of an Excaliber, I may be be in dire straits and there would be no service centre here in South Australia.

Meanwhile, there is one of those much coveted HEGNER setups on Ebay, listed under fret saw instead of Scrollsaw. Last time I looked it was quite low in price, but pickup only from the Woollongong area.

I had a look that, Buzza. It is a terrific bargain, if it's in good condition - and it looks as though it might be. The only drawback is that it's single speed. Don't think I could handle a single speed anymore. lol. And you get the dust sucker too! Isn't Festool a top brand? Seems too good to be true? Wished I lived around Wollongong to have a look. Be interesting to see what price it goes for.

Don't worry, I watched it over 12 hours, discussing with my family, the finances and stuff. It would be a trip of three thousand kilometres for myself and and one son, and I did the figures for that, wondering who we could drop on for a camp in the Far East.

Then I noticed a bid had been placed, so my figuring was out of the window.

Looks like I'll have to raise some finances somehow, but I really need to get a decent Scrollsaw.

    WAIT!!

    I just realised, I haven't seen any B-Day presents yet, mayber . . . !!

People at General International have gone above and beyond to help Patch despite Carba-Tec giving him the shaft.

Carba-Tec imports their saw directly from Taiwan bypassing General International and refuses to service the saw stating that they "Don't buy from General and don't have to listen to their directives" . For all we know they could be taking the saws that don't meet General's quality control standards.

Despite their trying to help him with his problem with this Carba-Tec reject (Don't forget General didn't sell him the saw) He continues post negatively about the Excalibur in every related thread in all the scrolling forums. This is all after a couple years of EXTREMELY heavy use that patch put on this saw by his own acknowledgement. (I believe he said 30+ hours per week cutting 1.5" thick material) I don't know what more he expects.

All I can say more is I love my EX-21 and this one bad experience is plaguing all the scrolling forums.

I might add that it's not an industrial saw and the price reflects such. When I asked Patch what saw he would recommend, he refused to answer. There is no such saw in this price range. If he wants an industrial saw he can get a Hegner Polymax at over triple the price. Hegner Scroll Saws

Firstly to Ecsk, I hope you are having a lot of fun with that scrollsaw. It should have been mine you know. Mine I say. Still, it only has one speed . .

Secondly, to Keith. You have a couple of valid points there, and my mind is made up that as soon as I win the lotto, I will get a saw from Jim. There is no doubt about that. He has run a good business for years, and is well respected by the the members on this forum. My point is that Australian citizens should not be ripped of with rubbish from Asia that can only end up as scrap metal or landfill, and yet pay a premium price for that item. We probably all remember seeing very nice looking hammers for $2.00 which snapped off the head on the third stroke of trying to drive a brad into a marshmallow. (They do make good items for scrollsawing names right through the handles though). These days, the same $2.00 hammer has a price tag of $15.00, and it is assured to snap off just like the cheaper one. Drill bits that melt, hand saws & hack saws that have dissapearing teeth, handy clothes lines that have pegs that do not grip the line itself, small "GREEN" batteries that last only a few minutes, and are sold on cards holding huge amounts of this landfill. . . the list goes on and one, and the line-up of container ships from Asia into our ports gets bigger each month. If we must have any item from Asia, we must get value for our money. As for that other company mentioned, they never ever answered their Adelaide phone, nor did they ever reply to a number of Emails I sent to them, all to do with me purchasing a scrollsaw from them when I was cashed up and rearing to go. Thanks to Patch, and a few others, I am now warned well away from them, and will deal with Jim, but, as stated before, Lotto comes fisrt though.

I still haven't won the lotto. All points taken here, and are now considered. Thanks everyone.

Patch last I heard from you Gen Int. sent a load of parts for free to fix your over 2 year old saw and when Sheila and I asked you about it in several emails, you never replied once.

The only thing I said that I didn't read from your emails and posts was that Carba-Tec may be getting G.I. rejects., which I stated was just a guess. Anyway... nearly 99% of people love this saw and think that it is one of the best available . But you say the EX sucks. What saw do you recommend?.. I know I have asked this of you many times and have yet to get an answer.

gen did not send me any parts they came from Carba-Tec and I never used them because when I set them up out of the saw and put a dial inducator on the bearings they did not run true
it is like a lot of people I have spoken to about this saw there is very little quality control
