I know it is a late reply but hey. i bought an excalibre 21 of Carrolls several months ago. I cut everything from clocks and portraits to shelving brackets and building stuff. I quite often use 1inch timber without the hold down and as a result every now and then it will grab, lift and bang back down on the table. I scroll semi professionally (probably 4 hrs a day minimum). To date the only damage to the finish is where i have stuck the blade into it putting it through the holes. When it was shipped it still had the blade it but it was well padded. I started scrolling on a ryobi then went to a makita now the Cal. While the makita was quite a good saw (i dont want to talk about the ryobi lol) i have noticed a substantial blade life difference now as well as the fact that i cut alot quicker. The Cal has been the an awesome saw and i have no complaints at all. I agree the scratches on the table dont look great but it doesnt affect the use of the machine at all. I dont use any form of lubricant on the table i just keep it clean and everything slides without a problem. I would love to give a Hegner a go but for the money i fear i may stick with the Cals for a while yet.

excalibur table scratches
Hello all,
As I stated in a previous post the table top I believe the table to be powder coated and that powder coating is relatively soft.
However, I have only one scratch on mine to date caused by sliding a large piece of heavy plywood on the table.
It does not cause me any concern at the moment and I polish the surface with wax to ensure that it does not rust.
Should the table become too scratched I will look at other options, i.e. gluing a smooth laminex or similar brand finish, waxing as stated before, or possibly taking it to a chrome plating company and get it chrome plated or finally treat it as you would with vehicle spray painting and colour it if you wish then spray a hard clear finish on it.
All options, logically, will need to consider the cost factors and life expectancy.
As my first effort, I made some minature furniture and also a dragon clock for my youngest son. One grand daughter has asked me to make her one but with a cat motif and my daughter wants one with a bird motif.
My hands have stiffened up with age so I will need to look at some pictures on the web and see whether there are suitable pictures to base them on.
I envy some of the work done here by members and hope that one day I might achieve something near as good.
