Fully set up with all attachments....

first thing to go will be the shield... It prevents blade changes so would need to be taken on and off every time you need to change a blade or rethread a blade... Not going to happen lol peter is going to get me a face mask just in case its needed (i wear glasses so safety glasses wont work)

second thing to go will be the foot - the actual attachment is needed to hold the airhose in place but the foot can be removed....

    pic attached of fully setup

more to come soon .... Peter is off to bunnings to get bolts to bolt it down (the ones we had arent long enough)

Ok bolts are back and screen/foot are off... Photos attached

i have also attached photos of the on/off switch and variable speed dial which are at the very front, the blade tensioner at the back of the machine, and the table tilt mechanism at the front, plus the air hose and the light (which im not overly confident will do much at all... But I may be surprised)....

Ok we are now bolted to the desk....

    Pinned Blades

Easily attached, easily changed... Photos attached...

you dont need to take the yellow plate out to change a pinned blade but i did so we could get pics...

    1. Release the tension (top back of machine)
    2. Lower pinned blade into hole then move it towards back until it fits into slot, lift up til it catches
    3. Push down on top of blade holder and slip top end into groove
    4. Retension until blade tings

all set to saw.... And if you were only going to use pinned blades this would be a great beginners machine....

    However, non-pinned blades coming up....

    Non-Pinned Blades

    two words....

    FORGET IT!

this system for the non pinned blades is impossible to use

first you need to put the blades into the holders, but not all the way or the blade is too short, you need to make sure they are centred both vertical and horizontal - try 20 minutes, then you need to insert them the same as the pinned blades, but pray the blade you chose isnt too thick to get through the slot....

end result - pinned blades only unless peter can work out a better way of doing it

    very very disappointed...,

so down to bunnings for some el cheapo blades so I can at least use it

So sorry you are not completely satisfied with the new saw,my saw is a carbatek & it has a tension release lever above the top blade holder, to change the blade I release the tension with this leaver & I have a quick release blade holder ,no alan key just a knob to turn to release the blade then I remove the bottom blade holder complete with blade & use an alan key to install new blade into bottom holder, reinstall blade & use the tension release lever in the other direction to get your tension back, you can get the quick release blade holder from Helen Harris, let me know if you require her e-mail address.Hope you can make sense of this.Cheers Peter

    Hey hun

thanks for the info but i have already talked to Helen and the one she has won't fit mine..... However! After searching all day we found this one that does the same but for my scroll saw (ie it has the same shape attachments etc) Scroll SAW Blade Holder Conversion Adapter SET TO Take PIN Plain END Blades | eBay - so for about $65 (including postage) it will work like yours yay!

I will finish my "Whether this scroll saw is worth purchasing for pinless work" bit once we have the conversion kit in place if it works she will be a fantastic scroll saw for $315

oh ps - conversion kit is due sometime between 7 January and 18 January

Ok back to the pinned blades....

Machine works beautifully... Easy to tension blade, to swap them out, and she cuts like a dream. She is very quiet and barely vibrates (which I was very surprised with being such a cheap option).

the light would probably be good if you had no other lights on, but since i am sitting under fluros, its kinda null and void

the little blower was a surprise, it does actually blow enough to keep the saw dust away from your line of site.

at the moment we dont have a vacuum hooked up, so it drops the dust down onto the table, but that is easy fixed too

So my outcome so far is that she was worth getting IF the conversion kit works until then I will just have to pick projects that dont need the smaller pinless blades

Great write up Cuddly. Do they make a version with a horizontal table LOL. I hope the conversion kit works for you, and if it does you will be way ahead price wise.
Are both the segmented tube and the clear tube blower nozzles?
We have a loan of a cheap Aldi scroll saw at the moment which my wife is trying out to see if she likes doing this type of art (for want of a better word). The design of the machine looks very similar to the H&F unit, and for the price runs very smoothly. I will be keeping an eye on your reports to see if yours might be a good option if we purchase one down the track.

I know it doesn't help you, but it may help others in the same boat. These are available in Aus.

Hey Dallas isnt the whole world sideways?

the segmented tube is the light
the clear tube that joins to the metal pipe is the blower

its a nice little unit for the money with the exception of the pinless blade adapters

my upgrade though will be the general when I can afford $1200 lol unless anyone has a better option??
