Are you happy with your scroll saw
Hi Every One
I have been reading some of the post regarding the Excalibur EX-21 scroll saw, there seems to be some disappointed people out there with them. What I was wondering are there many people that are happy with the EX-21 and are the new models OK.
I know very little about the scroll saws.
Mine is Delta 16 inch I am about to do a few projects with it, and I may buy a EX21 if my enthusiasm holds up and my projects turn out ok I use the saw at the moment for making toys and models which I might add my work rate is pretty slow. A bit like Michael Angelo and the Sistine Chappell…… well not quite but you get the idea

I'm still using my Deltas ( yes... two! lol) and am still happy with them, but have looked into the other available saws simply because we can't get the Delta here anymore.
More and more people are buying carbatec's Hegner look alike and are very happy with the performance...... after adding genuine Hegner clamps ( available from Helen Harris).
I only know two people who are using the Excalibur..... they are big and heavy.. not a machine you want to carry around... of coruse that also does make them great for bigger projects. Like most saws tho... seems you need to fiddle a bit to get it to work the way you want to. If you send me your e-mail addy I'll get you in touch with one of the guys who uses one. He will gladly talk you through the ups and downs of it.

Our Hastings Woodworkers Guild has several Delta's and one Excalibur.
The Deltas all get plenty of use as the members like the blade quick change facility on them.
The Excalibur also has has a quick change lever but it also has the upper and lower parallelogram lifts for the blade that keep the blade perfectly straight - (at 90 degrees) to the table.
Without these, all our other scrollsaws have a blade that goes up and down through an arc, and not vertically like the Excalibur.
I would be interested to find out if any other brands have a similar cutting action to the Excalibur - Carba Tec's (?) for example or any others.
Cheers

Hi Patch I feel I have known you for a while a couple of days anyway…. For it was your comments that started this thread I am pleased you have put in a post and I am glad you have fixed the short falls with your EX 21
I have had a lot of input from quite a few scrollers, if you have been following my posts you would have seen what I am about and the track I am thinking of going down.
What I would like is to do is stay in touch with you, and if I was to buy this scroll saw I may be able to get some advice off you.
I had a look at your toys and that is my thing also you have made some grand toys, do you make them for your family or is it a bit of a sideline I don’t wish to intrude so just ignore this line if you like.
I have two grandsons and that is my motivation, along with some charity work that I really enjoy at this time of year.

Hi Colbra,
I still have vibration issues with my EX21...there is no way I'd be game enough to run it at high speed...I had it back to Carba Tec and we compared it to a brand new one straight out of the box. Annoyingly mine didn't appear to be much worse than the new one. I custom built a new bench just for the saw and then bolted it down. I sit a small fan on top of a 4 litre can of auto paint to help blow the dust away...on high speed the fan will fall off the can and the can and other bits and pieces walk around all over the bench! I was in touch with Ray at Seyco in the states who is an EX21 guru, but he says it's not the saw that's the problem but my bench and shed that is. (My first bench was bolted to the steel frame of the shed...the noise was terrible as it made the colorbond cladding etc vibrate terribly..} In his opinion the saw should not need bolting down...but even when I tried my saw on the floor..(125mm reinforced concrete..), it would happily wander about all over the place.
The vibration is very disappointing...but so far the rest of the machine seems ok. I might add that I only clock up about 4 or 5 hours a week on it, using mainly 4.5mm MDF.
Dave...Just a whisker more......................DAMN!!!!
