help needed
good evening all.
I appologise as new to this site and forums. I am a frustrated self taught fretsawer. I have produced some nice peices but i go through far too many blades and must confess i have only used plywood from the local hardware shop. Any help or advice would be great as gave up for a while in frustration but want to get back to it. regards

It's always much harder to get the hang of something on your own...
You should be able to get all the help you need here.
Some of the reasons for braking blades are .... cheap blades.... putting on too much pressure, having too much or too little tension.
Also...... plywood really wears a blade down quickly. Any wood that has a lot of glue will dull them. The minute you feel you have to push too hard it's time for a new blade.
Another thing... choosing the right blade for the thickness and density of the wood. For 3/4" pine I use a #5 or even #7.
Good luck

You must fine tune your scroll saw before you start, Is the blade in the wright way up?
Tension is it correct Table square to blade.

Hi Margin
I came across an interesting way of demonstrating how to tension your saw blade on an American Intarsia website. It may help to clarify the sort of sound that should be coming from your blade when you 'pluck' it.
Scroll Saw Tension
When you click in the box to advance the sounds, only click once, or you'll keep getting the same type of sound (Oh that's way too loose).
Cheers
