    Default Issues with JET JSS-16A

    Hi Folks,

So i was finally getting into the shed to play with my new toy, and as i was trying to put in my pinless blades, the Hex screws on the blade clamps of my jet stripped!

After some googling, i've come to realise that this is a common issue with this scroll saw and the clamps themselves are somewhat flimsy and the blades slip out quite regularly (annoying but i got the saw for $50 so not too annoyed)...

I was hoping the brains trust on here would be able to let me know if there are any aftermarket blade clamps i can get that would fit the JET (preferably quick change but not a deal breaker).

I've done some searching on the interweb, but it appears there isn't a great deal of information on this...

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

I can still remove the hex screws using a pair of pliers (luckily because the Hex was already somewhat stripped without my knowledge, it wasn't overly tight).

I was looking at just replacing the screws but after researching and finding that a few were having issues with the clamp strength, I might take the opportunity to replace the whole component.

I'm struggling with the size of the screw though. All i can find on the parts list is that its M5x8. But when i try to find something this size, all i can find is m5 x 0.8 so i'm not sure if thats the same thing (still new at all this).

I've shot an email off to JET to see if they respond, and I was contemplating using an Index Level i think they're called to give me a tool-less blade change... but without knowing the size to get, i'm kinda stuck...

Try this crowd. Great to deal with and quick delivery.

Axminster Blade Clamp for AWVFS Scroll Saw - Scroll Saw Accessories - Sawing - Machinery Accessories - Accessories | Axminster Tools & Machinery

    Also suits Jet JSS-16

Bummer - just saw it says “out of stock”

M5 threads are normally 0.8 pitch. The 8 in M5x8 refers to the length.

Yeah i came across that site.

Good to know what the .8 means. So 8 is the length... does that refer to 8mm?

Looking at it in the machine, as you tighten it it comes out the other size of the clamp. If i get something a bit longer i cant see that being an issue so lobg as it doesnt hit anything on the other side can you? Or do you think it will throw off the alignment/cause vibration?

The manual I just looked at shows a different size threaded fastener that tightens the clamp.

    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/72...page=19#manual

    Item 77 - M4X16

I would think that with a small fastener like that, a nut on the other side, provided it doesn’t hit something, would not be a problem.

Just had another look (parts list is on my work PC), you're right. I just realised that the parts list i'm looking at is for Pinned blades only. Same scroll saw, but doesn't have the clamps for pinless blades on it.

Thanks for the help, saved me getting the poo's buying the wrong sized nut.

    Cheers

    Hi Dibbers

I was reading Steve Goods (from USA) blog the other day and he mentioned a new replacement blade clamp made by Pegas. Have a look at his post from Jan 28th. Hope this helps you.

Just had a look at these... 75 odd euro... wow! And i cant see how theyd fit in the jet just by the pictures so not sure if id be willing to spend more than i paid for the saw for the clamps without an idea of how theyd fit...

Thanks i've dropped her a line.

From what i can see though, i don't think it'll fit on my machine... mine is the JET JSS16a, which (by looking at the photos) won't support this clamp. The clamp will work on the JET JWSS-22 which is a larger model and has a different mounting set up for the blade clamps.
