    Default Jewry cutting blades

Hi All once again I am asking for some advice! I am not going say what is the best blade for …….!
But here is my question I am cutting thin cane skews about 1.5 mm
And intend to buy some fine Jewry blades metal cutting type when I read there description, it said for metal cutting only. I do not have many blades for my scroll saw and the blades I do have are for basic cutting. The cane feathers when I try cutting the thin skews with these blades, would the fine Jewry blades be suitable please. And what is the best place to buy as well thanks.

    Colbra

PS I know I really did ask what the best blade is for! But just for a change of pace and to brighten up a dull question I went to Sydney via Perth

    Default Scroll Blades

Hi, Colbra, I have had a lot of trouble with metal cutting blades ,and at the last timber show here in Shepparton,I bought some blades from ( Hellen Harris, ) they only hade the very fine no 4 + 5 blades at the show they are swiss made and the best I have ever used, and I do quite a lot of small metal work, Worth a try

I am not saying they are the best for your job in Hand.and I mostly use in a hand frame but they are tops.
    Cheers Edwin.

    Edwin....

Here in the U.S. I regularly use 8.0 jewelers' blades to cut 1/4" plywood into tiny jigsaw puzzles of postage stamps (see attached photo). I buy them from Sloanswoodshop.com. Since they take only an envelope to ship, I would think they might be able to send some your way.

When you go to their website, scroll way down the pages of blades to find them. But a warning: Even though they cost very little, they are VERY brittle. I break two for every one I can get to cut five or six puzzles. They really aren't designed for the speed of a scroll saw so adjust the tension and speed of the saw accordingly. I find them really fun to work with and they sure do make a thin cut.

    Good luck..... Carter
