Jigsaw puzzles - the best blade?
I have quite a collection already, but I've been asked to make jigsaws for a new client.
MDF 3mm backing, 6mm puzzle pieces.
What would the best blade for this be do you think? Is there a favourite for such a task?
On another matter, what do people find is the best adhesive for the print/photo onto the MDF/ply?
TIA

I have never cut puzzles before but from what I have read from other forums etc. you could use puzzle blades but you might find the thickness of what you plan to cut maybe a bit much for them if you plan to cut the pieces & the backing together. You may need a bigger blade such as a #1 or #3 in either a skip tooth or Ultra reverse. If you use a bigger blade with a bigger kerf it makes it easier to fit the pieces together (handy for children) You will need to take it slow & have the correct tension & not force the blade otherwise a angled cut will result.I don't know what adhesive they use but maybe just a spray adhesive like the one I use to glue the patterns to the wood.Hope this helps in some way. Cheers Peter

I usually use puzzle or superior puzzle blades. Flying Dutchman brand. Get them from Mikes Workshop in the US or there is a well hidden supplier in SA somewhere though I've never been able to find them.

The blade supplier in SA is Helen Harris & you can email her at [email protected] I get all my blades through her & find her very helpful & prompt. Cheers Peter

Yes, I order from Helen all the time. She is marvelous. There is a considerable box of blades here, but puzzle blades are not in my collection.
I was thinking of the Flying Dutchmans Superior Puzzle FD-SP (but my PDF from her is probably 2 years old. Time to update!)
Edit: I should have mentioned, the cuts are only through 3mm MDF, not the whole lot. Silly me.

I use Helen as a blade supply and couldn't be happier. If you ask the question of her you will get a response . I have done numerous puzzles and use #3 PGF blades no problem as far as glue goes depends on the quality of the paper if photo paper aquadhere [not sure of spelling]is as good as any to attach to MDF just don't flood the paper or it will weep through experiment with scrap
