Default Mods to my Ryobi Scroll saw for a Quick Release.

Some time ago I replied to a posting, on how I converted my Ryobi Scroll Saw, to a quick release. Having received several PMs, as to how I did it, I thought I'd do a report for everyone to be able to do it themselves.
To remove the side, remove the metal cover on the side, then undo the 4 nuts underneath, don't take them right off as the bolts will fall out, I turned the unit on its side. Then undo the screws on the sides, keep them in the correct order as they are different lengths. Remove the sides without the wire running around it, which should be the short side. I found some of the screws to be extremely tight, to the point I had to use a cold chisel to crack them loose. To separate the sides, cut the sticker at the knob end, and use a large screwdriver in the blade setting jig, working your way down around evenly.

Remove the knob, threaded bolt, the V blocks top and bottom. A thin punch will be required to remove the small rolled pin in the knob.
The bolt will need to be extended to 210mm long, I did this by cutting off the head that was on the bottom and welding on a 6mm socket head bolt, this measurement was taken from under the head of the S/H bolt.
The handle was made from 2 discs of 25mm diam X 6mm bright bar, with a gap enough to clear the head of the 6mm bolt about 10mm. Don't put the bar too far down inside, otherwise the head will catch inside, about 2mm should be sufficient. This was then welded together inside the V of angle iron so that it sits level and square. A 12.5mm hole was drilled to allow for the pivot pin, this should be at 90 degrees to the handle and the centre 10mm from the edge. I used a piece of metal that I found in my "assortment box" that had a knob on the end for comfort as a handle. I also ground a small flat on the bottom, opposite the pivot hole, to give a positive location.

The pivot pin is a piece of 12mm diameter bright bar, cut at 26mm long, with a 6.5mm hole drilled through the centre at 13mm.
Next to be made is a Top Hat, I used a piece of 16mm diam bar with a 6.5mm hole drilled down through the centre. For the hat I used a piece of 25mm X 6mm bar drilled 12mm this was pushed in flush and welded around the top.
All the components should then look like these.

To assemble it all, put the V block that was at the bottom on top arm, and the the threaded V block at the bottom. Place the pivot bar in the handle and the extended bolt through the pivot pin, then place the bolt down through the top V and into the bottom V, screw it down REMEMBER it will be LEFT HAND THREAD, so it screws in the opposite way a normal bolt goes. I suggest putting a piece of wire in the bottom hole to prevent the bolt being screwed out accidentally.
Re-assemble the casing on the scroll saw, the bolts sit in a plate that slides into a section on the sides. Bolt it down lightly and then put the screws back in. Tighten the nuts, a 10mm socket is required for this.
The sticker to show tightening, requires modification by drawing arrows just under the sticker, to reverse the position shown, I used a paint pen.
This is how the finished unit should look.

If anyone has problems making any of the components, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help out.
    Regards
    Kryn
