    Default Multi-layered picture

Among the attractions of a new book I bought David for Christmas was a log scene. The idea was to cut some slices of timber from a log, which were used to create a background, middle ground and foreground to form a picture. The pieces were then assembled and glued back into the log.

David wanted to try it out without bothering with the log. It's a mighty busy picture with lots going on. The bucking bronco was a real trap and its back legs broke on three occasions. So there was some frustration in getting the final image together intact.

I really like the concept and it could be applied to so many other ideas. I tried putting the block against lamp light at night and it looked really great with up lighting. I'd like him to try a larger version of something which can be lit from below, but unfortunately neither of us knows how to do say some LEDs that can be switched on at night.

If you go here Instructables - Make, How To, and DIY

You can learn a lot about making stuff up that has to do with LED lights. There is a lot of projects there, that include how to wire these little lights together and what types you can get. I hope that helps.

By the way, I have seen that design before, and similar ones to it. They look great if done including the log, although this one is suffice without it.

    Hi Buzza
Thanks for the tip on the Instructables site. Good site. I will definitely show David.

I agree that the logs look good. However, David just wanted to see how it all worked, so he kept it very simple. No doubt, with some urging from me, he'll find some suitable logs to do more of these pictures.

I already have some inspiration for doing our own original concepts. I see a garden with a swing, a garden chair, some trees in the background, perhaps a pond, some foliage and flowers, a fountain. Then the skies the limit on landscapes. We already have a beautiful plank of wonderfully figured wood that lends itself to being a background to a landscape. - clouds, hills, rivers. All quite inspiring.

    Cheers
