Default newbie scroll saw advice please

    Howdy ,

Im after a scroll saw and have a budget of $800.

I know Im after a quick release for the blades but not sure what other 'bells and whistles' I should consider.

I would also be keen for any recommendations or STAY AWAY advice.

    Many many thanks.

    G’day Spanner,
l found a secondhand Hegner on gumtree for $400
and definitely would recommend something like that!
I’m sure others will offer other brands, but steer clear of the cheap $149 to $199 ones IMHO!
For blades go to Helen Harris of Harris Trading; good prices and great service on top brand blades.
    Cheers crowie

yep I agree blades from Helen and Owen and if you can get a hegner or excalibur scroll saw you won't be disappointed -MUST have quick release for blade changes , tilting table, reasonable size table and ability to cut at least 50mm high timber for compound cuts.

So i went to the machines4u site and saw an Excalibur for sale on a POA basis. I contacted the seller who then gave me the price and website link to his online shop etc but the model he is selling as new is a Carbatec one. Is this the same as the excalibur or am I being scammed into thinking its the same??

    https://www.cwsonline.com.au/shop/it...ex21-scrollsaw

I just can not find Excalibur's for sale anywhere on the interwebby thingy.

    Cheers

G'Day Spanner, Jim Carroll is a top supplier and a forum sponsor, very reparable.
I think the Carbatec is unit is a copy of the Excalibur..... I'll have to wait until a mate returns home from holiday to confirm that though.
    Cheers, crowie

Crowie and NZ Carver...... Thanks very much for your advice on this.....being a sponsor places a lot of reputational trust and knowing that doing one of us wrong places him in danger reputation wise places a lot of comfort in my heart.

    I'll go with Jim.

NZ Carver.... Did you go with the 30 inch?...... How often do you actually utalise that amount of 'deep throating'.......... if you'll l pardon the gross reference and poor pun choice. I dont think i have quite enough space for that size in my little shed.
