    Default Pinless scroll saw blades

Hi I am new to this site it look pretty compicated so exuse me if I am in the wrong section First of all I have a 17yrr old Ryobi Scroll Saw I have been using it for some time until I tried the pinless blades . They are much shorter than the pinned ones and only allow 2mm at each end to insert into the clamps I find that is not enough and they can come awy easierly . I can not get any more slack on the saw arms to be aable to mount them in the grooves They are a good way short are there a longer one on the market ,i have had these ones some years The length of my pinned ones ,pin to pin are127mm,, the pinless blade s are 127mm overal and I have some spiral ones pinless which are 130mm overal Any one help me out here Denis

Have you got photos of the clamps on your saw? You have the standard length of pinless blade, and that length of blade works fine on my Ryobi saw (which is a bit younger than yours). On mine, a feww mm on the ends is all that is needed to hold them in place. You do need to make sure the clamps are nice and tight though.
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

It looks like none of us have got around to checking out the actual lengths of our blades yet. We can send each other private messages. When you register in for a visit, look at the Private Messages ans see what the count is. Mine at present says 0 because no-one is talking to me either. (;-( I will try to find some time today, but I think your scrollsaw does not have the abilty to take pinless blades. As Peter says, send a picture if you can.

G'Day Denis. Well I've just finished building my scrollsaw bench just now and took a break by seeing what's going on in the Forums. My blades (pinless) measure 131mm, and the pinned blades measure about the same between the pins, and about 135mm overall.

    I hope that helps you.

    Default Scrollsaw blades

Just finished my bench too Buzza. Low down one so I can sit down and save the back.
@Dennis - if you are still viewing mate.
I have one of the later models of Ryobi scroll saws - and this has special clamps for blades without pins.
On top of the arm itself are two recesses where these clamps fit and it is a measured distance - the new pinless blade is inserted and the screws tightened.
The whole lot is then lifted off and fitted to the catch under the table and the front end of the arm.
Takes a few minutes but quite easy to do.
Even for me at 72 and a noob on a scroll saw.

Default Photos of Scroll Saw bench

    Gooday,
Here are a couple of pics of my bench. Low so I can sit on a chair. Made similar to a photo of one seen somewhere on the internet. I could draw plans if anyone is interested.

Stationary, sounds like you are using the pinless blade measuring depressions located conveniently on top of the top arm. Best to get out of that habit. The main point in pinless blades is that you can cut very fine holes inside the piece. You only need to drill a small hole to thread the blade through in order to cut. Pinned blades need a huge hole to thread them through - even for ones with a fine cut. Of course, you need to feed the blade through the work before you put it in the holders, which then makes using their measuring guide difficult. As long as both ends are secure in the holders it will work fine. Exact distance doesn't matter. I found it easiest to mount the holders in place, and then clamp the blade into them. Also much easier if the bottom guard is removed (the one on the left of the base as you face the saw to use it)

    G'Day Denis,
You could try emailing Helen Harris of Harris Trading who's sold a lot of scrollsaw blades, books & accessories to a number of us on the forum..

That's a great stand Stationary, and some good advice to you on changing blades etc.

I may start another thread to put up a p[icture of my stand.

Meanwhile, Denpat (Denis) seems to have not returned to his post as yet. 8-)
