    Default Safe Paint for Toys

Does anyone know where I can find some non-toxic paint suitable for children's toys? Also a polish that would also be suitable?

I want to make up some wooden toys for my niece and nephew but I want them to be able to be safe if they decide to put them in their mouth like all children do.

So any advice or recommendations... I mostly stick to childrens/business names with my scroll work so have never really had to think about this

    Thanks

    G'Day Natty,
I just use acrylic paint with a pressure pack gloss clear over the top.
I've also used just clear poly ureathane, too.
I've seen others use very specific non-toxic paints but with children over 2.5year I haven't seen an issue you toys & eating them.
    Not sure if that helps.
    Cheers, crowie

Yeah that's what I use for the letters, but I was hoping for something a bit more friendlier as they will be 1 and under, so guaranteed to put them in their mouth.

Might just have to keep up the googling

Clear finish - use shellac, its person friendly enough that it is used as a coating for pharmaceuticals (pills). Just make sure its real shellac (beetle bits and alcohol) and not a modern substitute.

For coloured finishes you could use craft/poster paint made for kids, and then give it a top coat or two of the above mentioned shellac - the paint is made so that kids can drink it & not get sick, unlike some 'adult' artist paints, which will make you very sick very quickly (cadmium reds, purples and some yellows are the worst)
