    Default Scroll saw suggestions

    Hi

We'll its time to buy my first saw, I came accross this one and was wondering what the forum thought of it. I'm looking for something that is accurate enough for some puzzles and the like. Your ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I bought one - it was enough to get me interested, but I quickly upgraded to a better one. Its ok for occasional use. For jigsaw puzzles you'd have to check that the table and blade are perpendicular. I modified mine to incorporate a "stop" so that after tilting the table it always came back to the same position.

I can't comment on the Proxxon machines as I do not know anyone who has one. I have an Excalibur, which I am rapt with, though I have heard that some of these machines have had electronics problems.

Is there a woodworking club near you with a scroll saw group? Well worth talking to others and checking the machines they use. Take your time deciding! While the machines start at $125 (or less on eBay), you can pay nearly two thousand for a Hegner.

If you want to do good work buy for the best machine you can afford as it works out cheaper in the end.
