    Default New Scroller

For a recent Anniversary present I bought LOML (& myself) a Scheppach DecoFlex
through H&F & the Club came with extras such as the box of bits to fit into the Dremel Flexshaft

Got our gross of blades from Helen @ Harris and drill bits I got some 3mm MDF some sheets of 3mm ply

Had a quick play with it

Now where do I/we go from here

first off you'll tell all of us how you like the saw.... never heard of this one and I'm very curious!
looks like it uses pin blades? that would limit it's usefulness....
If you can use both... like the Ryobi and then GMC.... a bit of a pain to change pinless blades.... but it would still be a good starter saw.... if you really get into scrolling you can always save up for a better one ( Harris Traders sells some you might consider )

second.... get away from MDF...... good to try stuff... but.. got to wear a mask...... be very careful ..... don't want to breath that dust in, also the glue in it is hard on blades, dulls them very quickly.

Costa's Treeland sells small pieces of pine ( he even planted the trees himself!!!) He'll thickness it to whatever you want..... my husband loves it..... all he has to worry about is doing my sanding now! lol It's great for x-mas tree ornaments and just about anything else.

Third..... when I first started out I didn't like the idea of doing a lot of test cutting ( wasting wood) ... I wanted to end up with something fun..... so I did kids puzzles... all sizes and shapes.... must have done over 100 of them.... all on 3/4" pine.... some bought new at Bunnings, lots begged left overs from other woodies. You don't even have to worry about buying patterns.... any kid ( yours or neighbours) can make you a drawing and you just draw in how you want the pieces to be. Kids love it and you dont' have to worry about staying on the line or anythign. AFter you've cut a gazillion of them you'll find you've learned how to handle anything else.

I also find that it's important that you choose patterns of thigns you really love.... if you have any other hobbies, say like playing golf or watchign footie..... make a clock out of a football shape.... a plaque with a golfer.... etc.....

If you need any help ( you already found Harries Traders! lol) give me a holler

Thanks Juvy The Scheppach is Pin & Pinless and ordered pinless blades

I don't like the round plastic centre guard got to make better one, the work steady feet thing will be coming off.

The operation of the Dremel flex shaft isn't independent of the saw so when using it the saw runs.

Buzza have checked out Steve's Blog joining up sounds good and as I have Corel Draw an added Bonus.

Yep...... first thing I took off my saw was the hold down..... it's good for cutting thick timber to help with the hurting old bones in the wrist..... but it's a pain and nuisance for fretwork.
Next to go was the built in air pump..... wasn't strong enough and it was attached at the hold down, it also pointed directly to one's face.... how silly was that?
.... so we put a strong aquarium pump with a flexhose on it.... this way it's fairly easy to point the the nozzle away from the face. It's wired so it comes on when I turn on the saw.

I've been a member on Steve's site for a loooooooong time.... he's really putting a lot of work into it, is always open to suggestions and actually answers his e-mail - amazing... don't think the man ever sleeps as he also still makes patterns and actually cuts them! lol

Great advice from everyone, but also just get some scrap wood and experiment and practice, practice, practice! The techniques become easier as you constantly cut!

    Have Fun!
