    Default Scrollsaw blades in Sydney

I bought a cheap Scrollsaw on impulse, and although I don't use it that much it is a useful thing to have around. I've had quite a lot of use out of the blade that came with the unit but now I need to replace it, and I want to expand my horizons and obtain blades of different pitch, and I would like also to obtain some metal cutting blades. When I went back to the shop where I bought the Scrollsaw I found that they didn't sell ANY blades (incredible!), not only that, I have found that I can't buy them from any of the hardware shops or tool shops I know. Does anyone know of a source in Sydney (I would prefer to purchase over the counter because freight costs are too high from the on-line suppliers I have found).
    Thanks in advance.

Gary, what about the Woodworks Book & Tool Co., they may sell the blades

You don't seem keen on online vendors, but members on here speak well of Helen Harris

I bought blades a couple of years ago from mikes workshop, my first online buy. Very good service & excellent blades.

    Cheers.................Sean

Thanks for that Sean, if online is the only way to go so be it.

I just think it is incredible that you can buy a scrollsaw from just about anybody but can't buy the blades - very strange.

    Thanks again

Are you after pinned or plain end blades?

Carba-tec sell blades, so does Mik International.

Harris Traders postage is quite reasonable and so are the blade prices, payment is via invoice so dont have to be worried about credit details over the net etc.

Thanks all, looks like Carba-Tec is the way to go. Interestingly I used to live in the street they are in, I don't think they were there then though, 20+ years ago...

I buy from Helen Harris. She is very good and her prices are very acceptable. She will send you a catalogue on available blades. She posts the plades in an envelope with a cardboard stiffening so price of transport is only normal letter postage. I pay by deposit into her bank.

Try her and I think you will be very satisfied. Her address has already been given

Have you tried Bunnings? Never been there myself obviously, but I'm led to believe they're similar to our Home Despot. IIRC, HD has both scroll saw blades and coping saw blades. Upover here, scroll saw blades are 5in long and coping saw blades are 6in. For pinless mounting, you can snip the coping saw blades to proper length. NG for pinned though.

We also buy all our blades from Harris Traders. The prices are better, they have a huge variety ( german made flying dutchman) and Pegas ( made in switzerland) the service is very fast and their friendliness can't be beat!

The scrollsaw blades we stock at Bunnings are pretty crappy GMC ones.
