bobman...how did you create the silhouette images,

Were they on line or did you make create them yourself. My wife does photography and some of her pics would work well with this scrollsaw treatment.

    Bob,

I am starting one of these but have a question......the silhouette patterns that I have produced have a lot of "Island" pieces in that should I follow the pattern, I am left with separate bits that I would have to work out where they fit approx and glue them onto the black background. Do you 'force' a connection from a nearby section so that all pieces are connected someway to another.

Hope I am making myself clear and you know what I am getting at.

    Cheers

    Scott

Skot if you are using gimp use the bucket fill option and this will show up all the floaters or islands has you call them you need to bridge them or join them to the nearest section. There is a good tutorial on scrollsaw village on how to make a portrait in gimp it's a bit long but worth watching hope this helps. Bob

    Default Backing Board

I have read different thoughts on backing boards and I think I will purchase Black Photo backing boards instead of painting some MDF with black.

It will be more expensive but less of a mess with cleaning equipment and my workshop is not set up for any spraying. I will probably put them in frames as well.

Question : Do I glue the portrait to the backing board & if I do....spot glue or completely cover the back but be economical to avoid squeeze out.

Here is my 1st attempt at a scrolled portrait............predictable famous subject but had to start with someone......I am keen to do some subjects that my wife has photographed next.

Skot you made a great job on your first portrait I just use black a4 card from the pound shop and put it in loose the back of the frame holds it in place

    Very well done portraits!

I have gone to flat black poster board. It is cheap, but looks good.

Not framed yet but you can get the idea.

I will spot glue the poster board to the back of the picture and put a thin backer board behind the poster board when I frame it. That is the plan anyway.

They look great. Eric Clapton is my favorite. Best pattern I have ever seen of him. Well done.

My wife does photography and part of her portfolio is Fine Art Nudes....here is one of her photos that I cut today. Very basic lines but is recognisable as a person....Model's name is Jemma

I told the wife that if I didn't follow the lines accurately...it would have increased her cup size.........

Finally got around to finishing the portraits....I decided to do everything in the workshop so went out and bought the Framing material, Matt board, backing board, Glass etc....made the frames myself and am learning more as I go along. There may be cheaper ways to frame them.....buy pre-made at the discount stores, but I like to be the one that determines the size of the finished item.

Just need a place to hang them now......

Good Idea Bob...BUT I get to have continuity of frame style unless I can find frames in the "El Crappo" Stores that matches my shop built frame.
