Scrollsawn box
Hi everyone
Here is a box from the book I bought David for Christmas. This one is Victorian inspired, and was an enormous amount of work. The top alone required about 150 holes drilled, which meant a lot of blade releases. I love its delicacy. It is somewhat reminiscent of the ivory carvings that were popular in 19th century England.
The timber is silver ash, which is just gorgeous. It positively glows. It isn't finished, because I so hesitate to touch it with anything that will yellow and darken it. I've bought some bleached shellac, hoping that this might keep the timber neutral enough. However, even it imparts a slight yellowish tone to the wood sample David tried.
It will need finishing just to protect it from marks. Any ideas welcome.
