Thread: What is best non toxic glue to use?

Yes! Prolly glue better to bare wood! Good ole PVA should do the job! Just paint with a roller to the top surface of the letters maybe!

Thanks Tea Lady I have heard that Gorilla glue is very good but I know nothing about it. Can I buy it at an ordinary hardware shop? I should have gone to the stand at the Brisbane WWWS duh.

Hmmm,- Might be able to help here as have done a few Wooden Signs with Scroll Sawn Letters, & pictures attached to a baseboard. From experience I find the Exterior grade PVA woodworking glue to be the best, and attach the lettering / picture to the baseboard before painting, then, when the glue has dried apply a good quality undercoat to everything,- I use a 6mm. touch-up brush to paint the letters,- yes it's fiddly, & time consuming sure,- but unfortunately there's no short-cuts. Recently did a Funny House Name Board for a local client, ( " RAT HAVEN," ) who has a mouse problem like everyone else here has,- but a local Council inspector couldn't tell the difference, result the new name for the client's house
Shall add a couple of photos of my work,- including, " RAT HAVEN, " which is done in 50mm.lettering,- and complete with a big fat rat. while the second sign is with 80mm.black-painted letters on a Pine baseboard,- What it means, - I don't know,- simply followed the client's instructions.

Gorilla Glue works really well. My cousin in the States absolutely raves about the stuff. I was in SYD for the TWWW and bought some.
It does stick to absolutely everything. But you only have to use the tiniest amount.
As far as their PVA wood glue goes, I think it would definitely do the job. They guy at the stand was telling me that the Gorilla PVA does indoor and outdoor and is super strong. I have tried in on some outdoor furniture so I shall let you know.

As has been said: definitely glue bare wood to bare wood.

You don't say whether the sign will be inside or out? Inside, any good PVA should do nicely.

Outside, you'll want to use at least a water-resistant glue. PVA's like Titebond III are good but the external items really need to be maintained properly. ie. fresh coats of paint every few years. PVA may be water-resistant but it's not water-proof!

In such a case I'd much prefer an epoxy-resin. eg. 24hr Araldite. But whether that falls into the non-toxic category depends on whether you mean "are finished products food-safe?" (Yes) or "is it non-toxic while working with it?" (No. Yes. Maybe. Don't stick it in your mouth! )

The client is Indian? Then it probably means "The Garden."

Skew Chidamm,- Re;- Sign Translation,- Client is from New Zealand, and living in Adelaide,- whether THAT helps with what it means or not is up to you. All I know is that is going onto the front of their house in Adelaide !!!.

" for a client here in Port Vincent,- that's how they wanted it spelt; " Magpie Manor, " for a Port Power supporter;- " Crows Nest," for a SA Crows supporter; " Onemore," for an Adrossan, (SA), householder; " Binthere-Donethat," was another funny house name for an Adelaide customer. ( client's spelling instructions,- not mine,- what they wanted is what they got )
