It would by accident found out how long your Tecniglue will last before you need to throw it out. I mixed up some and it still has not gone off fully after two days. Yes I know how to use this stuff, I use it all the time. I've had this batch for two years now and about 6 months ago the hardner started to give off a strong smell and when I mixed it with part A it made the mix go much darker than normal. It is stored in a draw out of any light and sealed in its container. I guess I now have to pull the joints apart and somehow remove what I can and use some from an unopened batch now. if anyone has any ideas why let us know.

Definitely something funny going on. I suppose the first thing is don't use that lot again. You may also find acetone will soften/disolve the un-catylised resin & make it easier to get off. Many years ago I had a similar problem with Araldite, but I was much younger & the problem may have been my portion control rather than the glue - acetone worked, even 20+ years later.

Send Techniglue's manufacturer an email & ask them what they think has gone wrong - it could have been a dud batch & no-one has noticed a recall notice.

Bote-cote claim to have an indefinite shelf life, so if Techniglue does have a use-by you might want to change brands.

It does sound like a batch related problem - I just recently (about a month ago) used some Techniglue (from half-used containers) that had been sitting in a box for the last 12+ years (the batch code seems to indicate October 1998 as manufacturing date), and it mixed (no unusual smell) and set just fine.
