    Default Glue for shoes

Bit of a tricky one here...
I have a pair of dress shoes that are on their last legs, my regular cobbler says he can't do anything, but I'd like to try to save them as they're factory samples and I can't replace them. Is there any strong, somewhat-flexible glue around that will work on a very narrow surface (2-3mm wide)? Fortunately the damage is on the instep side, so it won't be super visible, just need something that will hold it all together.

    Default Shoe glue

Is there any reason you wouldn’t use Shoe Glue. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/p...QaAhCCEALw_wcB

I’ve had reasonable success doing tricky repairs on my wife’s shoes with this glue. Not sure about your’s, the problem is the 2-3mm working surface.
    Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.

I was under the impression that contact adhesive is the go-to glue for shoes might be worth a bit looking that up?

I would use a flexible contact glue, such as Selleys Kwik Glue: Kwik Grip(R) Horizontal - solvent based | Selleys Australia

From what I can tell, the shoe glue is just contact adhesive, which really needs a decent size surface area to work. The reviews online for it seem to be less than stellar, but that's another matter...

Apparently, Loctite does a gel-type super glue so I'll see if I can get some of that to try.

The best glue I find is polyurethane with the aid of clamps. Last longer than contact adhesive.

As a former shoe maker the shoes have basically gone to God, as factory sample they were never made to last or be repaired, in my opinion
whatever glue you try will fail very quickly

Yeah I know, they've lasted well over 5 years (probably closer to 10), I figure I won't make it worse so may as well try

I had a pair of walkers the front toe was lifting on. Being cheap, I searched my glue cache and used this after cleaning the area with acetone. Outlasted the shoes.

Well, I had a browse of the Bunnings glue aisle and came home with this stuff; cyanoacrylate based gel for porous surfaces.

Initial results are promising, I was able to put a significant amount of pressure on the join after a 5-10 minute cure with no sign of it coming unstuck, they'll be seeing 8-10 kms of walking over the weekend so we'll see how the glue holds up.

Hope you have a 'Plan B' in case you have a failure half way through your walk!

I glued a ladies high heeled shoe platform with sixaflex. It has held for quite a few nights out so far. It dries like a hard rubbery material and is quite tenacious. I use it to bond all sorts of materials in my car service workshop.
