Resorcinol vs Epoxy?
Hello……I'm stuck!
Does anyone have any comments regarding Resorcinol Vs Epoxy for external hardwood applications( i.e. a pair of Jarrah gates) and it's availability here in OZ……I'm cutting by hand through mortices and tenons…..I've been advised to go epoxy but I have not yet found anyone who has experience or knowledge of resorcinol.
Regards
beeb

Answered my own question!
Hello to all you glue forum people!
I'm new here and to woodwork so I realised when making my post about resorcinol it was an old question gone by…in fact nobody has posted here for some time but the good news is that one of those old threads (over 365 days ago!) told me the benefits of perhaps not using resorcinol at all and going with the more modern Epoxy due to its filling and no sag properties.
If anyone is still visits this forum can I ask if anyone has had experience with the brand 'Epiglue'?

One thing you can do with resorcinol is add a bit of PVA to get a little flexability. Which is good with wood that also tends to flex with weather and all that.
I bought a small amount of it in bunnings. Years ago though.anne-maria.

According to Wikipedia, resorcinol is non-gap-filling, so, unless your hand cutting is REALLY good, epoxy is probably the better option.

Recorcinol or Epoxy
I have over the years used both these glues, however not any more. There are better products on the market today which are far better and last much longer. We use in our joinery either AV 515 by AVS or 'Multifibre' by Wurth. Once you have used either one you will never go back.

resourcinol is realy and industrial process glue, not realy something suitable for general woodworking use.
Modern epoxies are just fabulous, easy to obtain and easy enough to use in small quantities.
The marine epoxies are juts great......they come un-filled and runny but can be thickened or fortified as required with a variety of fillers
check out west system and boat coat.
cheersAny thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.
