Default Selleys Tarzan's grip has changed

For quite a while I have used two different PU glues.

For laminating and for when I need a longer open time I use the Titebond PU. It does a great job.

When I need a fast cure and am not fussed about a short open time I used Selleys Tarzans Grip PU. I could have a glue up going through the drum sander 20-30 minutes after clamping. I loved this one, too.

I bought some Tarzan's Grip recently ... bugger ... double bugger ... Selleys has changed the formula. It is no longer fast setting. Even with moistened surfaces, it is at least as slow to cure as the Titebond ... maybe slower.

Does anyone know of a PU glue that goes off very quickly?

    Thanks, qwertyu,

    I'll follow up on that.

Selleys used to promote the old version of the PU glue based on strength and it's fast speed of cure. It was called Mega Bond. Truly, it was the answer when we needed a fast cure. The open ime for the other product is only 10 minutes. Titebond PU has an open time of 25 minutes.

30 minutes cure time was wonderful. Will we ever see it again?

In addition, the squeeze out for the new glue, called High Strength Glue is quite hard and very difficult to remove. Both glues feature the same artwork, which is confusing.

I am amazed that Selleys produced several types of glue and used identical artwork, making it very easy to mistake one for the other. The PU glue I was using, Mega Bond, has been discontinued, but it's very difficult to tell the difference between the two PU glue bottles.

I was going to give Durabond a shot, but it has a four hour clamp time.

My kingdom for a quality glue with a 30 minute clamp time.

Selleys told me that they had experienced some problems with the glue going off in the bottle. I had this happen to me once. The bottle was likely about six months old and had been opened and was half used. I threw it away and bought another.

Had the decision been mine, I'd have switched from a bottle that was about 500 ml to one that was about 200 ml. That would have significantly reduced the number of bottles "going off" before being totally used.

It just seems odd to me. Selleys was the only product around with a 30 minute clamp time.
