Has anybody used spray on contact cement?
Hello,
I am after some advice about contact cement. I am just about to glue up the rails on my hollow wooden surfboard, and I am laminating bending plywood and cork to form the rails (method pioneered by Paul Jensen).
I enjoy everything about making a surfboard, but for the application of contact cement. For this reason I thought I might try spray on contact cement. Has anybody tried it, or could you recommend a brand to me please. Also, do you use a spray can, is it expensive or do you use a spray gun? I have a compressor, so spray gun would be fine for me.
Any help / advice gratefully received.
Regards,
Anthony

I used to spray contact all day every day fixing ABS sheet to doors for a Hospital, we used sellys kwikgrip, in 20 lt drums we added a hardener can't remember what, and it was thined with Toluene, just for a one off sufboard I would go with a spray can as it would be quite expensive to buy commercial quantities for one job, a spray gun used for paint would have to be refitted i.e new air cap ,nozzle and needle, for real porus material you may need two coats

Hey Anthony,
If you have a compressor, just go to Supercheap and get a $20.00 gun and use that, we have a Marine Trimmer at work and he has been using the same gun for 5 years, (will never be any good for Painting, But $20.00) Just buy a litre of quikgrip or sika Contact. Like china said you may need two coats on porous material.

Kwikgrip through a srpay gun, that is surprising.
Hi fellas,
Thank you both for the replies. To be honest I thought you would have to get a special product to spray it through a gun, didn't realise you could thin and spray Kwikgip. I might give it a go, although as you say, the cost of set up will be expensive.
All the best, thanks again,
Anthony
