Sticking a poster to a table
HI!
Sorry if this isn't the correct spot to post this question but it's the closest I could find.
I have a caravan with table wanting a new surface but painting is boring.
I want to blow up a photo I have to table size and make that the surface.
Would I use clear epoxy glue and cover under and over the poster?
I googled it and found no suitable info. closest was info on decoupage but this is for lots of small pics so is different.
Any advice or links would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

I have not done this myself so my idea is just that.
I would treat the photo as a piece of Formica and use contact glue to adhere the photo to the table top. You apply the glue to both the top and the photo then once touched dry put them together. Once these two surfaces touch it will be impossible to remove so sticks used between the two surfaces so that you can align.
Then you can choose what you want to finish the top with. Again not something that I have tried but pour on glass comes to mind.
I think these guys were at the Sydney Working With Wood show.

I would use a contact adhesive to adhere the photo to the table (and I like rattle cans spray adhesive for this type of thing) then top coat. One caveat, some top coats with interact with the photo in a negative fashion so print several small copies of the picture and test adhere them to scraps of wood then top coat. This will allow you to determine which adhesive works with the printed picture and which top coat won't react with either the photo or adhesive. Also, this will give you practice on technique.

Thanks for the advise people.
Your suggestions are along the same lines of what I was thinking. I spotted a product called Mod Podge I was considering also.
The one part I can't test on small photos due to their size is sticking the poster down without bubbles. I'll probably have to do it 6 inches at a time and very carefully.
Those rattle can sprays, I think, could be a pain as, I have found out before, anything that curls, like a poster, would have trouble sticking with that stuff. I have experienced that before
Also thanks for the welcome Old1955
Cheers

you have probably done this as it's an old thread, there are 2 ways of doing it first one is to paint Pva on to table top then lay poster down roll out any air bubbles, poster will need to be cold laminated before hand so that it is protected. second method is to use self adhesive and the same method as version one.
I glue posters down for a living.
