    Default 3/4" Spiral Downcut

Does anybody know where I could buy online a 3/4" spiral downcut bit with a 1/2" shank?

    Cheers, Jack

I think you'll struggle to find a bit in 3/4" especially in carbide, maybe a downshear bit with plunge point would be suitable?

Thanks DJ, I actually needed an upcut bit

It's to put 3/4" holes in my workbench.

I used an auger bit in a drill using one of those cheap drill stands to hold the drill vertical. I then used a 1/8 roundover bit in a router to round over the edbes of the holes. Much cheaper than a router bit and works fine.

    Jack,
I read in a magazine some time ago that the best/safest way to achieve what you are wanting to do is to drill thru slightly undersize - say 5/8" and then plunge thru with the router. Less stress on the router and cutter and also a clean cut hole. If I remember correctly, the plunge was done first with the router 3/4" cutter just a few mm deep and the drilled thru, followed by the router again. Ensure that the router is against a fence/stop blocks to ensure no movement.

I reckon the downshear bit with plunge point would be ideal for what you want to use it for as the plunge point should cut a clean hole as you plunge it, mind you I don't have one so cannot say that it's the right bit but from what its meant to do it sounds like the correct one to use.

Tell you what, I'll order one that is to be delivered to you and you can try it out and then forward it on to me once you've done the job as I'll have a use for this bit later down the track.

PM me if you want to go ahead with this, we can share the cost.
    Cheers

Thanks guys, have a 3/4" spiral upcut bit on the way.

Sorry DJ, you're on your own.
Pusser, I don't have one of those stands so would have to order one anyway.
Lesmeyer, I may go that way.

Jack, I have some of the other sizes of the ONSRUD upcut spiral cutters from LV. Great quality and the smoothest cut you will ever see. I use the 5/16 on the Leigh Jig with great results.
