    Default Large Coving Bit

Can anyone tell me where I can source a large radius coving bit, without a guide bearing? I need to rout a channel of approx diameter 60mm. While this is large, I only need to rout about 15 mm deep - I don't need a complete hemisphere. Consequently it doesn't need the full 60mm. To visualise what I'm trying to say, imagine a hard ball of diameter 60 mm pressed 15 mm into, say, soft mud. The diameter of the indentation would be around 52 mm even though its a section from a 60 mm sphere. A bit like the indentations on a large wooden solitaire board, but for tennis balls rather than glass marbles.

If necessary I could make the indentation less than 15mm deep, thereby making the diameter of the indention less than 52 mm, provided the profile corresponds to a 6omm diameter sphere.

Looking at a few on-line catalogs they seem to be smaller diameter but relatively deep (complete semi-circle profile). What I need is something broader, but not necessarily deeper.

    Thank you.

You can do a cove like that on a tablesaw. Look up how to do this on Google.

I would run some cuts along and across the piece to make life easier.
pushing the length through the saw needs to be done slooooowly.

That was my first thought too and I've been trying this this afternoon on a Triton Workcentre (yes, I know). I found it difficult to get the angle correct. First attempt was too shallow and the second try was too narrow. That's when I thought doing it on a router table might be easier.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
