    Default FESTO Router Bits

I am want to know about FESTO router bits, what are they made of HSS or Carbide tipped?

    Are they any good?

    What are they worth individually?

I am assuming FESTO router bits are early FESTOOL product before the company division and name change. Would this be correct??

Any info appreciated I tried google and got zip!

You are right, festo are the old version of festool, whilst its rare we sell the festool router bits they are a high quality router bit but mainly due to limited range we sell the flai Italian router bits which are tungsten carbide with Teflon coating to the body of the router bit

How would you rate the Flai bits? I've heard that they are made by Titman (and that Flai reverse the favour with blades).

    HSS = High speed steel

HM = Carbide tipped (from memory, the HM corresponds to "hard metal" which is carbide

as to are they a good deal?

    1) does shank size (it looks to be 8mm) fit your collet ?
    2) is the profile useful for your work ?
    3) is the price so good that you can ignore (1) and (2) ?

Yes 8mm……Not sure if it will fit, the TR12. Probably could turn a collet to suit if it is an issue.

    2) is the profile useful for your work ?

Some of them, but I don't think I need all 9 of one profile (A) or all 6 of (B) etc. 1 or 2 of each is probably sufficient. Unless they dull quickly. I am not sure how much milage you get from router bits.

    3) is the price so good that you can ignore (1) and (2) ?

I bought them as part of a bundle deal with the thought I may be able to sell off the excess. I just don't know what their value is or if they would be worth the effort selling for the return on them.

It might be wiser to purchase an 8mm collet for your TR12 -- one should be available as a spare part.

given the tollerances involved, and the risk of injury should a collet fail with the bit doing 22,000 RPM, I'd seriously caution against home made collets, unless you are a very skilled/experienced machinest

so can you post a better image of each profile you are thinking of on selling?

FYI. it appears that the bits you bought are no longer stock items.

They are pre 2000 as that is when they went from being Festo to Festool. So no longer stock items, but may have a new part number for an equivalent.

Still new unused in original packs, the packs clip together I guess so you can make a rack out of them. I had to bring them home along with some other gear unexpectedly on the back of my bike (don't own a car) so some of the plastic got scratched and all got dusty.

The profiles I am thinking to sell are the ones in the photo earlier in this thread (click to enlarge). I can take a photo of the card in the back which has a dimensional drawing if needed.

    Ian are you interested?

The current Festool ones seem to go between $30 to over $200 depending on the particular profile

Shank diameter may be an issue. I think, and I may be wrong, the festool genuine bits are 6mm and 12mm not 1/4" and 1/2". Not much difference but you would need the correct collet for the router. However, I may be interested in some.

    Cheers

A quick look in the 2010/11 Festool catalogue shows the majority of router bits have 8mm or 12mm shanks. I found one with a 9.53mm or 10mm shank and some others available with 12.7mm shank.

I have a 12mm collet for my machine so I would certainly be interested if the price is right.

    Default right shank

We can do the bits as required design and the attack of 12 mm.
