Need help with routing to a template.

I aim to make 44 half circle pieces approximately 200mm radius for a small table I'm building. Each piece is being cut from 18mm ply.

I have made a template out of 9mm mdf that is the size I want for the finished piece and I have hacked together a router table using my plunge router.

I am a novice at using a router and am having some issues with the router running away with the work-piece at the start of the run. I know that I have to move the work-piece against the rotation of the router bit so effectively moving the work-piece from right to left across the router bit. What I'm finding is that on the outside of the circle if I start too close to the left hand end the bit grabs the work piece and throws it around fairly violently, but if I start further in everything is fine but then I can't trim the left hand end of the piece. Does this make sense?

Photos below may help. You can see how I'm left with bit at each end that is untrimmed.
I'm not planning to use the router across the ends. That will cut on a saw before assembly.

Any guidance on how to trim the full length of each side would be appreciated.

Screw a block of scrap to the table close to the bit on the infeed side (to the right of the bit), this will provide something to support the work as you start the cut.

As a general rule, templates should always extend past the piece to be cut unless you are cutting all the way around, that way the template engages the bearing before the cut starts and stops it from grabbing

I use templates quite often. If it were me i would be taking the router out of the table, fix the template to the blank and then clamp it onto a workbench and you will then have control of the router and the cutter. Depending on the size of the blank you may have to do one half and then the other half in two goes. By doing this you will be able to go right round the the template, that sides and the ends. This system works but it also is subject to the physical size of your router and the blanks.
