help - Taurus router, bit stuck
A family member has a router which they impulse bought at aldi (i think), I used it to level a work bench top I've been building.
After I finished I tried to remove the bit by pressing that yellow button and turning the nut, and the housing cracked. The yellow button is plastic, and the housing must be some of the cheapest alloy available.
I've tried for an hour to undo the bolt but I'm not getting anywhere. I've even tried to pull the router apart to see if I can get to it that way and the screws are starting to round (bottom right screw on first pic). I've oiled them in the hope of loosening them up, but no luck.
Any ideas?

I think that's a common problem, I had the same router but branded gmc where the same thing happened. I exchanged it. If you search google you may find other threads of similar nature, can't recall if there was a fix or not.

You will need a posidriv screwdriver to undo those countersunk screws as they are not philips head and that's probably why you are starting to slip. A philips screwdriver will fit in the same recess but doesn't fit the angles exactly and that's why it slips. Hopefully that casting only houses the locking mechanism so when you get it off there will be something on the shaft where you can put a pin through it or something to hold it in place.
The other option if you can't get the screws out is use a centre punch and hammer. Tap the centre punch into the head near the edge a bit to get a starting point and then angle it over and keep tapping in the direction that the screw needs to go to unscrew. Hope that makes sense, but here's a video that shows what I mean.
