Default Melamine with a lock mitre bit

I've been thinking of using a lock mitre bit for some 14 inch long joints. I'm very dubious about doing this with melamine though. I imagine the particle board in that locking tongue will just fall apart.
    Has anyone experimented with this?

I ran melamine on 16mm particle board with a lock mitre head in a spindle moulder at trade school during my machining course. It's surprisingly strong once you get some glue in there and clamp it up. Handle the parts like eggs until it's finished though; melamine on a 45 degree angle is both very fragile and razor sharp. Also be sure to have glue all along the edge, it will help prevent chipping.

Thanks. Planned for all of that except for the sharp edge. Guess I consider it too fragile to try to hold it on that edge anyway.

You have restored a large portion of my hope.

When putting cabinets together, I've cut myself so many times on the stuff, and that's after knowing tfe dangers.... its like a paper cut but 1000 times worse!! I've used a lock mitre joint on floating floor (mdf backed laminate) and it came up a treat.... give it a crack, what's the worst that could happen (apart from more paper cuts)
