    Default Advice re Router Bit

Hi, I'm relatively new to routing and want to build some picture frames. I have a router set up on a router table, 1/4" collet and my present rebate bit only cuts to about 1cm. For my frames I would like a wider cut - hopefully 2-3cm. What router bit should I use?
Sorry if my terminology is not correct and thank you for your help.

I would just use a straight bit and either first take a groove out followed by passing the stock through on edge get rid of the rest of the rebate. Or you could just do the full rebate in one go with a straight bit and the stock on edge. Cutting the groove first is likely to give less tear out

Just remember to cut in stages and do not attempt the 3cm in one cut

If I understand you correctly, it's the WIDTH, not the DEPTH that needs to be 2-3cm, in which case Ben is right in suggesting that you rout the rebate with the material on edge, using a straight bit. I seldom rout more than 4mm on each pass.

    Hey tippotippo

I used to do my frames (rebates) with a router, but learned real quick that the rebates are better cut with a Table Saw, lot quicker and easier, and way more neater,
As Harrysin says, gently gently, 4mm at a time even if your cutter is only 10mm deep you can still cut a bit deeper than that.
