Default Pattern following spiral compression bit review

    Hi Folks
Couple of months back I bought a spiral bit for dealing with the endgrain on solid guitar bodies.
I've been told that spiral compression bits are even better, and when Timbecon came out recently with one at the right price I thought I'd give one a go.
I've used the bit for template routing guitar necks that are made out of Rock Maple, and have the same issue when routing the bodies, in that you cannot avoid routing against the grain due to the shape of the neck.

The first thing a noticed is how easily this bit removes timber, I could barely feel any pressure coming back at me when using it and the process made less noise than usual.
The finish is close to perfect , no tearout anywhere and no burning.

I can heartily recommend this type of bit the anyone who has to deal with endgrain.

Quality compression bits are fantastic aren't they, sure can save a lot of work finishing. Looks like you bought the 1/2" shank version? Although these bits from Timbecon would seem to me to be very good value it's not easy to outlay that amount of readies on one bit. Of course, once you've used one you'd never go back to 'ordinary' bits. Glad you're so happy with your purchase.

    Cheers mate,

Your right about the cost being a potential barrier, I paid approx $100 for this one.
I have learnt to look at the cost of cheap tooling(finally), if I bugger up one neck blank with a bit that costs half this price,
it ends up costing me nearly the same as if I bought the expensive bit in the first place.
I must have over 100 bits, I swear i have tried everything to get out of buying top end, but it just doesn't work for me ! lol

People who buy musical instruments, ( or parts thereof in my case) really do expect perfection in fit and finish,
you either deliver or get out of the game.
