    Default Playing with the Gifkins

It was a cold, wet weekend and I wan't on call. Perfect time to start mucking around with the Gifkins that I bought at the Last wood working show.

I just used offcuts, all crapiata and the "design" (and I use that term rather loosely ) was rather spontaneous and unplanned.

The first is a little "chest" that will hold the Gifkins, hinges and fittings still to be done. I started this a few weeks ago and its still not finished. It is polished with ubeaut wax, the photos dont do justice to it, the ubeaut wax leaves an amazing finish (only sanded to 400).

The second is a small box, I think I should have waxed that one as well, but SWMBO suggested that I stain it and frankly I am not too happy with the results. It will be finished with poly when the stain dries.

I am just putting these up just to illustrate how easy the jig is to use, even on crapiata which was destined for the fireplace.

    Cheers

    Marios

Well done , no signs of the dreaded softwood blowout. I am still learning with my jig but with the few joints I have done I have amazed myself. Its a great jig.

    Thumbs up

    Nice one Marios,
I was going to try out MY new Gifkins today but grandchildren arrived! A good idea to make a storage box first up.

Thanks for the feeback guys, as it turned out when the stain sank in it doesn't look too bad, I will finish it in the coming week and post the completion pics.

With regards to blow-out, there was a couple of dovetails that did this but nothing that cant be fixed with a chisel, a sliver of pine and some glue. I dared my wife to pick the dovetails I repaired and she couldnt .

Look forward to seeing those. The Gifjins jig is a terrific jig and easy to use. I never attempted to do dovetail joints before but now I have the Gifkins it is not a problem.

Those boxes turned out really great routermaniac, will be interesting to see how the stained one looks when finished.

    Marios,
You will have to change your avatar after those boxes; you are now more than merely creater of fine shavings. You are a boxer of the finest prospective degree.
    Keep sharing your shavings,
    Regards,

Boxer thanks for the feedback but I think compared to some of the stuff on this board those boxes are rather mediocre. Nevertheless its a start . The second box turned out ok afterall, below I have enclosed two pics after 1 coat of poly (applied with a rag). It looks a little Japanese which is the effect I was looking for.

    regards

Yes, that has really brought it to life. Good work.
