Raised panel bits
I'm in the market for a set of raised panel cutters and noticed some on ebay for around $60. Seems cheap and you probably get what you pay for but I have a cheap set which i got from there before and they are OK. I also have some high quality ones which I use for more important jobs. Any way, back to the question, has anybody got a set of these bits and what are they like ? If not, what would you expect to pay for a decent set?

Gumby, thats the $64,000 question as they say but depending on the manufacturer and their market place you could be up for a lot of bickies.
With a typical CMT door making set be prepared to pay somewhere in the vicinity of $270 upper market quality, similar with Jesada.
Buing individually can sometimes save you money as with Carbi-Tool who make a great bit but not into making sets.
If you gave us the name of the set and the history of its use we could probalbly venture a better opinion but for $60 dinero's you may well have a bargain.
How many cutters in the set?How old, what make? A lot of questions but also use your own nous/feeling ask questions re chipping of carbide, shaft introspection, balance!!

Just getting into panels, So what I found was -
CMT set 'bout 260 -300 razoos, depending on the set ya want. The ones I looked at all came with three bits, one for rails, one for stiles, and one fer the panels.
Carbi tool, Reversible bit 127 clams, panel bit 65 clams. The reversible bit means ya just re-organise the cutters on the shaft fer the rails and stiles.
These are the only two brands I bother with.Boring signature time again!

Thanks John. My only experience on these cheaper bits is the set of 24 i got from ebay last year. Good for a practice - they only cost me $70 and seem quite good although I use mainly pine at this stage.
have alook here:

I bought a five piece cabinet set off eBay for $108. It has rail/stile, raised panel cutter along with a couple of fancy moulding bits. Hope to try out this weekend on some blackwood. I am building raised panel doors for our new kitchen. I am not sure what the quality will be like but I am sure this will put things to the test. They did offer a warranty though. I will post a review when I have given them a run on my new router table.

Gumby, had a dekko at the link you provided and for $60 and mindful that they're chinese manufactured you may well be on a winner...I mean for 1'4 the price of the name brands we have available here what have you got to lose moreover if they do the job you want of them again and again.
If thats the case then you'll be laughing at us guys who have laid lotsa $$$ over time for the same kind of tooling.
Personally it would'nt be beneath my dignity to try them if'n I was in the market for some new ones.
This supplier could be feeling out the OZ market using E-bay as his outlet...if they take off and prices go up then at least Gumby you have had a win!
Good luck with your choice.
