rare router table?
I picked up a Draco router table and 20 yo Makita 3601B router (both virtually unused) out of the paper today. Has anybody heard of this Aussie table and have any opinions? I can't find anyhing on them, and if the old bloke I bought it off doesn't have a manual, then I could be in the doodoo -I forgot to ask him today. The table is green and yellow painted mdf and steel mounting plate.
Cheers

I thought Draco was a Dragon!!
Shouldn't be too hard to set up. Do a search on the web and this board for "router table" and you'll find lots of hints, tips and set-ups which should help with yours.

Nope he didn't have the manual. The thing comes with a moulding kit and a thicknessing kit which are fences like nothing I've seen before. There's a sticker for the agent "wood machine maintenance" here in Qld so hopefully they will know where I can get a manual from.

Michael, the machined trenches are normally to take aluminium 'T' Track. Do a search there is a recent thread on this board. Apart from that its a bit hard to work out what the set-up is all about apart from the obvious normal router table functions. I notice it has dust extraction. Are there any table inserts for different size bits?.
I'm sure its pretty easy really, might just take a bit of playing around to work it all out. Somebody somewhere will know. Keep searching the websites. Hopefully the agent/seller will have some info. It looks great.

Thanks Squizzy for your help. it comes with different sized inserts (you can just see one in the top left of the router table photo - still in wrapper!). He's only opened one.

Yep. They were stocked about 2001, but no longer carried. He put me onto Leda in Adelaide who used to distribute them. I phoned them and the fellow told me they haven't had them for a few years and there were never any manuals made for them. He tells me the manufacturer couldn't compete with the cheaper taiwanese tables on the market and they are no longer made. The router table with no fence and 1 ring sold for $475 back in 2000 and the extra kits I got for a couple hundred more. I'm pretty stoked that I got this and a Makita 3601B all in as new condition for only $300.
The wood machine bloke Keith said that the yellow hold downs pevent kick back, so if you're working with long pieces of timber you can leave to change ends, turn the machine off etc without it thowing the piece of wood out. All in all it looks like a fantastic design.
I routed some MDF to make a drill press table for the balustrading job I'm doing and it works beautifully. As a bonus I was able to use the router table fence as the fence on the drill press table too!
By the way I think the trench is for a mitre gauge.

Hi Michael,
I remember seeing them at the Adelaide Timber Show when they were first released. Very clever design, built to compete against the Triton. However being constructed from 18mm MDF and costing nearly 3 times as much, it wasn't very sucessful.
