Router for table use
Greetings,
I am looking for a router for my router table which has a better "reach" than my current ? ACE 1300 (I can't remember what make it is, and it's too cold to go back out to the shed !) .
Requirements are for a router with soft start, variable speed, good power and (reasonably) fine height adjustment but most importantly, with the ability to extend the head of the bit fully above the table.
Currently, with shorter bits I am unable to make full use of them due to the additional thickness of the table.
Thanks in advance,Rebus

That is an easy one, no need to look past the Triton router.
As to extending past the top of the table, that all depends on how thick your table top is.
Triton have their own range of router bits which have longer shafts than just about any other bits helping to solve some of the problem of height adjustment.

Modify your table so that the insert isn't so thick that it stops you using the bits.

Bob,
Unfortunately, modifying the table is a little difficult. It's a cast iron top.
The problem is not major, it only prevents me using the full range of some bits. In all I lose about 15mm compared to use without the table.
But it is a great excuse to buy another router.

If you have the dollars then go with the triton - its seems to have been designed for table use.
