Recently completed my router table but have not figured out the best DC setup.
I have a crappy Sheppach vac hooked to a dust deputy and it really doesn't produce enough airflow for above and below the table.
Apart from a full 4" setup with a proper dust extractor, does anyone have a setup that works well enough?

Routers really need 6" ducting, with 1/3 of the flow, via a 4" duct to the to and 2/3 (5 or 6" ducting) to the cabinet.
There's no other way to do this unless you wheel the bench outside and wear a mask.

Mine is similar if not cruder and based on a Bunnings 2nd hand Kaboodle cupboard.
The front of the pocket that holds the router has a Perspex door with a slot at the top for airflow.

The air sweeps across the router and out a 5” duct at the back. That cavity stays very clean. The slot size was worked out using a anemometer so I knew it was not restricting flow.
The fence has its own extraction from a 2” pipe to a ShopVac. The line runs the length of the workshop so I utilised it rather that tee into the 5” duct.
The 5” outlet at the back is a slide fit as I also use it for my SCMS Cabinet.

On another note, if you run a fairly open airflow around the router bit, most if not all of the collection is dowwards into the cabinet and airflow and the fence collection does very little if anything. In some instances I would hazard a guess that it is actually impeding the airflow downwards and collection.

Bob, I think any DC that utilises 6" pipe is a little beyond me at the moment sadly.

Lappa, I did want to avoid running 2 vacs at once but there really doesn't seem much of an alternative. Maybe I could swap between the 2 connections depending on the work?
When I covered the front opening almost completely it wasn't enough to overcome friction and the dust near the front didn't move at all.
The Scheppach does use 4" pipe, I may try that directly without the cyclone and see what sort of performance it offers stand alone, no anemometer on hand so guesswork only.
I have some scrounged acrylic sheet somewhere around the shop, looks good being able to see whats going on in there so will copy that idea thx.

"Mine is similar if not cruder", mines a bit of MDF, a cut up pine bed frame and some tassie oak I got cheap when Masters bit the bullet. And the workmanship is definitely crude.

My outlet is up high and so is the slot in the fron Perspex door. So the air sweeps across the underneath of the top of the table right across the router base. Then again, my 5” outlet and pipe is going into a 6” system with a modified 2hp DC so the dust doesn’t get much chance to fall to the bottom of the cabinet.
with your outlet near the bottom, I would try blocking the top 7/8 of the opening, with the slit at the bottom, and see how that goes with the air sweeping the bottom of the cabinet.

All my fences and saw hoods come off a seperate 50mm vacuum line from the Shop Vac. I already had All the piping in place before I installed the DC so I utilise it.

I haven't been able to dig up the acrylic, lots of bits and pieces missing from the move, so the DC is on hold till I can grab some Polycarbonate on Monday.
But I've been able to use the table to knock up a usable fence and some accessories.WP_20181013_001.jpg

After getting back from the plastic mob I found the stuff I already had, ain't it always the way.
Anyway with a slight trim of one edge it fit the gap perfectly with a 30mm gap at the bottom. It worked brilliantly, thanks Lappa.
Even with the fence hooked up it's dragging dust from the front, if it manages to get to the floor.R_Table.jpg
