Default Tapered round nose router bit.

    Hi,

I'm after a router bit. I'm not sure if it can be bought 'off the shelf' or would have to be custom made. Does anyone know a place to buy a round nose bit that is tapered? (Wider at end of bit). Or maybe another way of describing it would be a dovetail bit that is curved at the bottom.

I've attached an image that shows the profile (not exact measurements but explains shape).

I've never seen one like that in any catalogue or website, I think you'll need to have it made. Carbitool will custom make pretty much anything, but that probably won't help you in the UK

Davidjonah you have answered your own question.....If you were to buy a standard Dovetail bit you could then just grind the curve in the bottom of it. You would need a Green Wheel in a bench grinder though. A Saw Doctor could do it for you I'm sure. He could also make sure that it is balanced so as to minimise any vibrations.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Grinding the dovetail is food for thought. I'll look into that.

    Thanks for the replies.

Any other suggestions are still very much welcomed!

Perhaps Titmans might custom make one for you? Dunno if they would do just one though (at an affordable price).

Hi I would and have done in the past as chambezio suggested go to you're local sharpening/saw doctor they should be able to do this for you quite easily. They should be able to alter an existing bit or make you one from scratch if needed.
    Regards Rod.
