Default TRA001 ~ Bit Jamming in Collet

I'm reasonably new to routing and have the TRA001 table mounted.

Today whilst half way through a job I noticed the bit was shifting upwards in the Collet. On investigation I found that the collett which was still tight, had released the bit part way, but worse, the bit was jammed in the top 1/4 inch of the collet. It didn't help I guess that I was using a cheap Aldi bit. Lesson learnt

I removed the bit, cleaned the collet but any bit I now insert in it will not go past the first 1/4 inch. If I insert the bit from the bottom of the collet it travels freely till it reaches the top 1/4 inch.

The collet is thoroughly clean and I can't see any blockages.

    Any suggestions?
    Dave

You have got your self a burr. OK it may be small but you are talking bugger all clearance between the bit and the collett. Remove the collett from the router and put a router bit in the collett and with an offcut of timber sitting on your bench tap with a hammer the collett till it goes over the bit. Yes it is a little drastic but it will work. The collett material is very hard and at times they can get this happen. Should you try a file to remove the burr the file will only slide across the surface without cutting the burr
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod
