OK I rang David and he basically said the price difference between the MOF and TRA was too close and most people would opt for the higher wattage, however, the TRA is a fair bit heavier and less suitable for hand held routing. So yes he is right about pricing but he wasn't considering usability. The MOF has a nice balance between table work and freehand. The TRA, however, is on special at the moment which makes them very tempting. Does 3 1/4 HP make that much of a difference vs 2 1/4 when I'm doing moulding, some template work and the odd dadoing? Does 3 1/4 HP run on a normal house hold circuit? If the price difference was negligible which one would you go for if ... mainly table work, hobbyist work including jewellery box making or is it a simple as trade work go higher vs home workshops.

I definitely find the bigger one harder to use out of the table.

    It won't make any difference.

Does 3 1/4 HP run on a normal house hold circuit?
Yes it does, the soft start ensures minimal current surge on start up.

If it's used mainly in a table I would go for the bigger one.
If it's used mainly out of the table I would go for the smaller one.

Thanks Bob, That's what I thought someone would say. It is mainly for table work. I've already ordered the Kreg insert plate pre drilled for Triton MOF or TRA. It looks like the big one it is. I have a very old but reliable Black and Decker (it needs 2 spanners for bit changes) that I can use for hand held work.

I have had the MOF001 for a couple of years - the brushed failed after about 2 hours use - repaired under warranty and no motor issues since.
However the lock lever fell off the other day while in use - simple to reset but it would seem that a touch of Locktite would be useful ( reminds me that I have not pulled the lever off again to apply the Locktite ))).

Bought for table use and just now finished building the table and looking for a suitable predrilled plate - any suggestions without spending a fortune .

    Thanks

I have a TRA001 which I have had for about 3 years now it is used solely for table set up and have regularly used cutters from 3mm dia up to 85mm dia panel raising bits. The larger bit being run on the second slowest speed gives a beautiful cut with minimal
vibration the ability to do bit change above table with the one spanner is great and the above table adjustment works well. I have it mounted in a Kreg plate and the cabinet is built very solid to support the top and plate and I have had no issue with it being and staying flat. I would gladly buy again but also glad when I bought it it was $399.00 from carbatec the new pricing is a big difference from that.
    Regards Rod.

I am a long time Triton user (1998), and purchased a Triton Router (TRA001) 12 months ago, and am extremely happy with it's performance. It is permanently mounted on my Triton Router Table. Like anything, you will experience positive and negative opinions/views, but at the end of the day it will be your decision as too whether you purchase the router.

Although Carbatec's price is a lot higher than others.

EDIT .... Carbatec dropped their price to match others, including free delivery. Living 100km from Melbourne that settled the deal. So TRA001 is on its way, Pre drilled Kreg plate is on its way from Amazon (no stock in Aus) and I've also ordered the Kreg Levelers. ( https://www.kregtool.com/store/c41/r...late-levelers/ ). Carbatec had stock. I liked the idea of just cutting out the area for the insert plate and leveling with screws instead of a very accurate rabbet, although with the triton and its find adjustment I'm sure I wouldn't have had a problem. Anyway hurry up Santa and deliver my xmas presents.

That is the route I intend to go down with a slight variation; after the plate is levelled in situ remove it and apply some silicone to the rebate. Once the plate is refitted press down to squeeze the silicone out until the plate is level again, this provides a perfectly mating surface with built in vibration damping. If you think the router will be removed now and again then coat the plate with something like PTFE release agent or silicone spray, maybe even Gladwrap; to stop it sticking.

That sounds like a great plan Chief but in my case I won't be rebating I'm using Kreg's levelers but I'm open to suggestions. I'm following Steve Ramsay's (my favorite Youtube woodworker) video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf5tRp35EEU . I do like your idea of built in vibration damping. I'm assuming/hoping that the weight of the TRA001 will lead to minimum vibration.

TRA001 arrived last Friday and the Kreg plate arrived today. My cabinet is made, all it needs is to cut the slot for the plate and then screw the top to the cabinet and make the fence. I tried the router and made a rebate on the back of the doors and while it do a great job (with a cheap bunnings rebate bit) the amount of dust was ridiculous. It covered everything. So obviously I need to hook this up to my DC with an appropriate adapter but finding a hose to fit isn't easy. I contacted Triton, Timberbits etc to find an exact Triton hose and haven't heard from them. The manual mentions the hose needs to have an outside diameter of 1.5" (38mm) . I've tried a few places including vacuum suppliers like Godfreys hoping for an "off cut" but they said they could order it in for $41. Ouch!

Any suggestions particularly from those who have done it with this router.

The Triton dust extraction system comes with hoses that screw straight into the router base; I use one on my table with one hose going to the router and the other above the table on the guard. Suction is provided by a beat up old domestic vacuum cleaner.

Hi Barri - may be a problem with woodwork forum site - just had a red page warning come up warning of phishing - first time I have ever seen that so no idea what is happening.

Anyway, by coincidence a Kreg insert plate for my Triton MOF001 and leveller kit should arrive tomorrow according to the Fedex tracking system. Tried buying in Oz but none seem to be available so checked Amazon sellers and found a few and Hardwaresales DOT com had the best price as well as by far the best freight rate for reasonable delivery - about a week from Washington state USA. is pretty much the same as some Oz suppliers sending from Melbourne to Brisbane - makes you wonder.

Anyway also keen to sort out a dust hose connector - will follow up Bendigo Bob's link - in the meantime I am staying right away from another MDF panel & dados......

Plate is my Xmas present - sure beats the jocks & socks I reckon
