Default Woodpecker insert and Triton router

For those with this setup do you have your insert plate with the woodpecker logo facing you and the winder on the right as in my pic or do you have it flipped. The reason for asking is in my situation the locking lever is a little awkward to get to although manageable but the switch is easier but if flipped the switch is now more difficult. As you know you have to get to the switch to turn off to change bits but should you use the locking lever at all and trust the router to stay at the adjusted height. Unlike some router lifts all work is done outside the cabinet but with the Triton you need underneath access. I used to have a Kreg plate with the winder on the left and the quick up and down handle was more accessible but the switch wasn't. Which way do you have yours??

    Hi

I have the woodpeckers phenolic insert and a triton router. I tried mine both ways but found it much easier with the course adjustment knob an the lock at the front (left hand side). I think this would be the same as your kreg. I need to reach around the right hand side to reach the switch. After a little use this has become easy. I think it is essential to use the locking lever with the triton. If my last adjustment with the fine handle is down I find that the router does drop a fraction of a mm if the lock is not used.

    Cheers

Thanks Mike but I just spotted something. If the winder hole is at 2 o clock then the fence covers it when doing edge profiling meaning I'd have to go under the table to fine adjust. So I moved it to 8 o clock and its now like you've got it. The lock lever and quick adjust knob are now more accessible. The switch is a little more inaccessible but manageable. I feel sort of stupid for not spotting this earlier but you know what we're like with new toys. We're too impatient to try it properly. I still find it strange that the Woodpecker logo and triton word are facing the wrong way and buried when doing edge work. I really don't care about that logo just that the hole orientation should be like the Kregs. Also strange that this aluminium plate is considered by many to be the best no sag plate.

    Hi Barri

Sounds like your router is orientated the same as mine but my logo is up the right way. Go Figure.

I wonder if the aluminium plate is pre-drilled differently to the phenolic plate or did I get one that missed quality control. Anyway I'm not fazed by not seeing the logo. I'm now fully functional and love my new setup.

    Hi Barri,

i have the Triton TRA001 router in the Woodpeck aluminium plate. Name plate on front left as I face the table. On/off switch on the left, height lock on the right. I've used it this way for a couple of years and it is pretty much automatic for me. I just reach under the table and my hands know where to go. (Hmmm - perhaps I should have expressed that differently). I always use the locking lever and I don't find it difficult although I agree it is placed a bit far back in this orientation. I agree with MikeJ about the need to use the locking lever.

I'm not in love with the Triton winder stick thingie. I do all the adjustments under the table.

Brian, I really like using the quick height wheel which would be on your far right and my near left. So I use that first under the table then the winder for fine tuning. I'm finding that having the lock lever at the front and the quick adjust wheel closer to the front easier for me. The logo is then buried under the fence. I hope Mr. Woodpecker is not offended.

Thanks John. I might try it this way next time I have cause to pull the router out. If Mr Woodpecker gives you any trouble you can claim it's upside down because we're in the Southern hemisphere!
