There is definitely a mismatch between plumbing pipe and the DC pipe. Presumeably so we have to buy the expensive original fittings. On principle I try to find an alternative.
If you are prepared to improvise, a variety of items can be made to fit. I like Pete's solution of heating pipe and feeding it over a form. I must try that.
The simplest solution I have found so far is to find a suitable sized tin can. Cut out both ends and use as a joiner. It may work on the blast gates too. PVC duct tape can be used to pack out joints as neccessary.
The 90mm stormwater pipe threaded joiners only need a little tape on them to fit inside 100mm DC pipe. 90mm is much cheaper than 100mm too.
Keep joins together with hose clamps or duct tape.

I had the same issues with my blast gates, and post 14 of this thread shows my solution. I adapted 4 gates this way, and they all worked fine.

A bit of topic, but on the topic of 90mm vs 100mm piping...
It may not make much of a difference on a shorter run, but keep in mind for a longer run that the cross section of 90mm pipe is around 19% smaller than that of 100mm pipe.
90mm pipe = 63.61sqcm
100mm pipe = 78.54sqcm
150mm pipe = 176.71sqcm

Re: 4" PVC pipe mismatch with commercial blast gates and flex hose
Thanks for all the ideas. I have nearly finishEd my setup and all the ducting is cut and joined now. I ended up using cloth tape wound round and around the plastic blast gate pipes until a tight fit was had for the 100mm pipe. I then put a couple of screws in to hold in place. As some of you pointed out the 100mm jointers ft the flexible pipe perfect so where I did not have a blast gate immediately close to the machine I ended the run with a y or a 15 joiner. Someone else pointed out using Vaseline to be able to get the joint in tight and that worked nicely too.
I have very good suction and permanent connection for router table bandsaw jointer and thicknesser. I did not connect the mitre saw. I have never had much success with capturing dust from table saw either, although I have a connection available as needed. To clean out the cabinet. It will do nicely for now.
I have build an enclosure for the bags of the dusty and a stand inside for the dusty motor. A hole in the shed wall still required to connect the 150mm flexible pipe between them and we are good to go. Will post photos when finished.

Absolutely correct in terms of frictional losses, but I explained myself poorly. I was not advocating the use of 90mm pipe, only the occasional 90mm fitting.
I would go down the tin can track in preference and it's even cheaper.
Remember to take the fruit or beetroot out first as it claggs up the top bag !
Always use the largest ducting that your DC can run while maintaining air flow.

Re: 4" PVC pipe mismatch with commercial blast gates and flex hose
Finished the internal plumbing Saturday.
Had the heart breaking task of cutting a 6" diameter round hole in my shed to get the dust out to the bags in my newly and rather roughly constructed dust collector dunny. Still got to completely water proof the dunny then permantly hook up the impeller to the bags through the shed hole and then caulking to complete.be glad when it's done so I can get actual work done - got a list from SWMBO already.

Just a follow up - was at the plumbers yesterday - Tradelink and mentioned the problems some of our Victorian forumites were having getting the connections between the dusty flex hose and the 100mm PVC pipe.
He seemed a little peeved that the stores were not keeping the customers happy as it was a stock item available through their supply chain. His suggestion, if you are interested, is to do a "referred sale" - he is happy to enter it into the system - refer it and then it will be available at your local store. He said "Not a problem, happy to help."
Let me know if you need more.
Regards,
Bob
