Beware clear hose outside - UV will eat it
I had cause to move the Dusty a few days ago, and I looked at the hose going onto the connection. I had thought that perhaps the suction could have better....
Now it wasn't as bad as in the pic - most of that happened in wrestling it off but....

I thought it was just the last foot or so, but upon closer inspection there were small holes and crazing right up to the hole-in-the-wall, so I had to purchase 2½ metres of new hose (the odd 120mm size) at $46 per metre! Felder told me that it is Polyurethane and so, yes, UV will kill it.
I was really surprised at the UV damage as it is in pretty deep shade. There is a little crack to a bit of sunlight, but no direct sunlight hits it. There is obviously more UV in shade light than I realised!
"Right", sez I, "this ain't gonna happen again if I can help it." I have an old tarp that has too many rips in it for general use, and so I wrapped the new hose in that, and taped it up. It is not possible, at these premises, to unfurl a tarp and do it in peace. Black Cats from miles around suddenly materialise to wreak havoc. I had to constantly shoo Blackadder and Nursie from under, on, and at one stage IN the tube (Nurse had her head stuck up the 'ole looking for Phantoms ).

It does makes the hose less flexible, but no big deal for the short distance it has to go.

The DE gets pushed over into that corner, so I just used an Occy strap to hold the less flexible hose a bit closer away from the fence.
So the moral of the story if your dusty is outside is either to use solid pipe or wrap it up, but make sure you have a look at yours to see if there is any damage.

I realise you probably need the mobility but that length of PU flexy will absolutely hammer the flow into a DC.
100mm Flexible PU hose is roughly 50% more restrictive than stiffer PVC flexy which is about twice as restrictive as solid PVC ducting.
For 150 mm hose the difference is even more pronounced with the flexible PU hose being 100% more restrictive than the stiffer PVC flexy.
The least restrictive hose I have tested was a very stiff black corrugated fire retardant hose.
It appears that the more flexible the hose the more it vibrates and it's these vibrations affect the flow more than the smoothness of the walls.
I have not tested it but if you have to operate, the hose outside you might be better off with stiff black corrugated PE irrigation hose.
ALSO - keep flexies ASAP, as SHORT as possible.

Thanks for this, might do something similar for the home set up. The new space has a window.
How long was this outside for? Interested to hear how long it took to be eaten.

Outside for about 4 years, but never in sunlight.
Yes Bob, proper ducting is on the list of things to do, along with opening the DC up to 6" (although I'm not sure if that's worthwhile given that I will be stuck with a 5" outlet from the A3 31 thicky, and at least a short length of 5" flexy going to that. The only other machine that the DE is used for is at the back of the mitre saw (in conjunction with a shop vac). My TS is a small DeWalt which can really only run off a shop vac, more's the pity.

UV scatters easily into shaded areas which is why outdoor furniture finishes suffer from UV degradation even if always kept in the shade.

Its worth doing for 5" ducting and well worth doing for the MS.
