Default Bill Pentz's Design: Lengthening Outlet Query

The 3hp blower I'm using for my Bill Pentz cyclone build has a flange at the outlet that extends below the body of the blower by about 30mm (pic). The diameter of the cyclone (20") is also wider the blower's body, so that flange will be in the way when I put it on top.

I have planned for a 36mm thick top (2 layer MDF) for the cyclone.

Is it possible, without too greatly effecting the efficiency, to extend the finished length of the Cyclone Outlet tube by another 36mm without changing the overall height of the cyclone itself so that the motor may sit higher on the top? At the moment the outlet tube will be about 488mm long...I want to make it about 524mm.

This wouldn't change where the bottom of the outlet sits inside the upper cylinder. It only extends it above the top of the whole cyclone.

I didn't want to bother him directly until I got a resounding "not sure" from those others in the know.
I'll give it a couple of days

Right at the bottom of the build instructions page on Bill's site, FAQ #42 seems to be asking a similar question but on a greater scale (feet of additional pipe between blower in attic and cyclone in workshop below). The answers don't address that additional length between the blower and cyclone at all, so I'm assuming that I'm fine to go ahead with it.

Re-going-over the instructions has brought to light a possible solution to another problem, so it's time for a new thread

Thanks for reminding me about that - it's what I would have to do to find a BP cyclone in my enclosure.
